Council Supports Country Tour with Grant of $3,000 Clarington councillors agreed on Monday night, June 9, to put $3,000 towards marketing and promoting the newest tour to hit Clarington -- the Durham Countryside Adventure. It's an offshoot of the former former Great Ganaraska Countryside Adventure. September Tour Sandy Archibald, one of the organizers of the event, told councillors the tour is set to take place thik- coming September, with Clarington being the first municipality to be a part of what will someday someday become an eight-municipality/township eight-municipality/township tour. Archibald told councillors, "the tourism industry in Durham generates $300 million million and 300,000 jobs. Ontario figures are $11.5 billion. billion. "Clarington, just east of Toronto, stands to gain a share of that pie with the Durham Countryside Adventure," she added. "Tourists are asking for agri- tourism, eco-tourism and soft adventures for one day." "It's all here, just 40 minutes minutes east of Toronto. It's time to give places west of Toronto a run for their money," Archibald told councillors. The tour, which the group hopes will be self-sufficient after one year, was looking for a one-time only grant from the municipality. Other sources of income that the group has found include a $2,500 grant from the Durham Region.
