Section Two The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanvillc, June 18, 1997 Page 9 Big Band Performs at The next outdoor band concert at the Rotary Park in Bowmanvillc will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 19th. The "Swing Shift" Big Band will be the featured group. The band consists of 13 musicians musicians and a female vocalist performing such melodies as Glen Miller arrangements, waltzes, tangos and polkas. The director is Fred Mildon. Admission is free. The concert is made possible through the sponsorship of Ted Watson Farms Limited and Landmark Furniture. Listeners are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs to better enjoy the performance. And, since the concerts will be held rain or shine, an umbrella may be recommended. Rotary Park is located at Temperance and Queen St., in downtown Bowmanvillc The following is a list of the remaining concerts scheduled for the summer and the sponsors of each concert. DURHAM REGION On Monday, June 9, Richard Hesson (right), Grand Knight of the Bowmanvillc Knight? of Columbus, presented a $2,000 donation to the Clarington Fire Department for use toward its defibrillator program. Fire Captain Cord Weir explains how the equipment will be used to restore regular heartbeat in patients whenever fire crews are called on to deliver emergency first aid. The Fire Department is two weeks into its campaign to raise funds for defibrillator units at each of its five fire stations, as well as funds for staff training. Museums Host Canada Day Celebration Come one, come all, to the Bowmanvillc Museum and the Clarke Museum Annual Canada Day Birthday Party. This year our country is 130 years old and we're celebrating in a big way. Our party is on Tuesday, July 1st, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The celebrations include: foot races; hamburgers and hotdogs; apple bobbing; snow cones; face painting; cotton candy; Shriner clowns; birthday birthday cake; balloons; flags; Reading Tent and Sparky the Fire Dog. The 'Down On The Corner Gang' will be providing the musical entertainment, which will begin at noon with the Flag Raising and singing of 'O Canada'. Earl. Brown, the Magician, will be on hand at 1:30 p.m. to astound the kids (and some adults) with, his feats of magic. The Reading Tent will be featuring Canadian authors for a quiet time with the children. A new feature this year will be the Looney Raffle, with items donated by local businesses businesses and supporters. The fun all begins with the sack races at 11 a.m., so come early and bring your blanket or chair.
