The Clarington/Courtice Independent, Bowmanville, Saturday, June 21, 1997 Wilmot Creek Remains Undefeated The Darlington Youth Soccer Club, represented in the Under-14 age group is undefeated within league play with two victories and one draw. This competitive competitive team, sponsored by the Wilmot Creek community, has travelled to Etobicoke and Scarborough and enjoyed it's first home game Friday, June 13. The thirteenth of Friday proved unlucky for the visiting North York Hearts as Wilmot Creek rode to a 3-1 victory. Shortly after the starting whistle, whistle, the home side scored with a talented talented shot by Jonathan Ross. The home team crowd composed of family, friends and Wilmot residents, cheered .as Jason Ruszcr blasted in the second goal before half time. A frustrated North York team allowed a third goal in the second half. Attacker Greg Quinlan set up Pat Quinlan for this important goal. The Wilmot Creek midfield headed up by Eric Lohnert, Jason Ruszcr, Trevor Lycctt and Colin Bourke used their talented talented ball control skills to contain North York. Darlington's rock solid defence took control of the second half allowing allowing only one goal. Defensive players include Kenny King, Carl Pokorski, Nicholas Burn, Rennie Heard, Graydon Ayer and Pat Quinlan. An outstanding outstanding effort by Antoine Williams in goal earned him the team's M.V.P. Attackers Jonathan Ross, Rob Bell, Greg Quinlan and Nicholas Bonsma all played an exceptional game, and will be called on to repeat their performance performance in an upcoming match in Cobourg. This team has travelled to Unionville and is planning to enter tournaments in Brampton and Kitchener. Coaches Dan Quinlan, Bob Bell, and manager Arlene Bonsma arc pleased with the team's performance , and wish the boys continued success within the Central Soccer League. Bowmanville Lawn Bowlers Compete in Whitby On Sunday, June 8, at the Hardiman, Mount and Richardson Ins. Tournament held in Whitby, a team of Doreen Jackson, Lead, George Jackson, Vice and Frank Petrie, Skip, became the Runners-up. Thursday, June 12, Bowmanville had two entries in the Sullivan Strong and Scott Tournament at Cannington. Because of being rained out, only two games were played. Our team of George Jackson, Lead, Norman Watts, Vice, and Doreen Jackson, Skip, won One-Game high. Our other team present was Frank Petrie, Lead, Betty Cameron, Vice, and Betty Petrie, Skip. To keep in good practice Betty and Frank Petrie participated in the mixed pair Hoskin Tournament in Cobourg on Saturday, winning two games but not in the prize list.
