Sandwiches and shortcake will be served from 11 to 2 p.m and again from 5 to 7 p.m. Cost for adults is $5 and children are $2.50. This event is presented by The Marthas of St. John's. FIDDLES IN THE PARK -- Fiddler Mark Sullivan and Friends will entertain at Rotary Park on Thursday, June 26 with their brand of Canadian old time fiddle music accompanied by piano and guitars playing such favorites as "St. Anne Reel," "Don Messer Breakdown," and "Crooked Stove Pipe," as well as square dance music under the direction of Dennis Sullivan. The concert gets underway at 7 p.m. This is a free event sponsored sponsored by Canada Trust. Concert-goers should bring their lawn chairs. BETHANY OUTDOOR THEATRE -- For its 13th season, The Bethany Outdoor Theatre presents C. S. Lewis' timeless children's classic the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, the story of four children and their adventures in the enchanted land of Narnia. The play runs June 26 to 28 and July 3 to 6. MAYOR MEETS NEWCASTLE RATEPAYERS -- The Newcastle Ratepayers' Association has re-scheduled a meeting with Clarington Mayor Diane Harnre to speak to residents of the village regarding tax dollars and how they are spent. SATURDAY, JUNE 28 HERB FARM OPENING -- Empire Orchards formally opens its new Herb Farm on Saturday, June 28th at 1:00 p.m. and everyone is invited. Visitors will enjoy a stroll along the birdwalk through 25 acres of hardwood bush to spy wildflow- ers, birds and beech trees. The ecological experience is enhanced by the 101 -herb garden. SUNDAY, JUNE 29 CANADA DAY AT CULLEN GARDENS -- Celebrate Canada Day at Cullen Gardens in Whitby. The days events include wagon rides, Upper Canada militia battle reenactments, reenactments, antique buggy displays and Hawaiian dancing. The day concludes with a Fireworks show at dark. Park admission is $8.75 for adults and $3.99 for children. FRIEND DAY -- Crossroads Christian Assembly celebrates "Friend Day" on Sunday, June 29 at 10:30 a.m. Bring a family picnic to share on the lawn at noon. Enjoy an outdoor gospel concert and a jumping castle for children. Refreshments and Choir from Netherlands Visits Bowmanville July 3 A 100-voice choir from The Netherlands will be visiting Bowmanville early next month as part of a "Thank You, Canadians!" concert tour. The group, which is known as "The Voice of Liberty," is from Nijkerk, Holland. They'll perform Thursday, July 3, at Maranalha Christian Reformed Church on Highway Two. The concert begins at eight p.m. The group is louring Ontario in response to a visit by a Canadian choir to Holland several years ago to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of that country during World War Two. The visit is the choir's way of expressing appreciation for the efforts of Canadians in freeing their nation. The Bowmanville concert is being sponsored by the Maranatha Choir. The performance here on July 3 will include an Honor Guard provided by the Branch 178 of the Royal Canadian Legion and two minutes of silence to remember those who died to preserve our freedom. The group's repertoire includes both secular and sacred music. Everyone is invited to attend the performance. A freewill offering will be accepted and, since the choir is performing free of charge, all proceeds will go towards the church's new piano fund. FAMILY DAY FIREWORKS -- On Sunday, June 29th, Liberty Pentecostal Church on Martin Road North in Bowmanville hosts a Clarington Family Day and Fireworks display. The day begins with a morning worship service at 10:30 a.m. followed by a picnic featuring free hamburgers hamburgers and hot dogs, games, bounce castle and fun. At 7:30 p.m. the evening celebrations include live music and at the fireworks display goes off at*, dusk. Bring your own lawn chair or blanket. Admission is free. All are welcome. TEEN CAMP -- Champions of Change Leadership camp is still accepting registrations from interested campers between the ages of 12 and 16 for an exciting day camp program to be held at the Bowmanville High School. Each two-week session offers youth a chance to develop leadership skills as well as opportunity to volunteer within the community. LIFELONG LEARNING -- The Northumberland/Clarington Centre for Individual Studies on Maple Grove Road celebrates ten years of service to the community. community. The centre continues to offer high school credits for students wishing to complete requirements for a Grade 12 diploma. As well, the adult education centre offers computer courses, including instruction in Microsoft Word, WordPerfect 6.1, Excel, Access and Simply Accounting. TUESDAY, JULY 1 CANADA DAY FIREWORKS FIREWORKS -- Enjoy a Canada Day barbecue under the big .top starting at 4 p.m. at the Port of Newcastle Marina on Tuesday, July 1. Meet your local police, fire* and ambulance people or take a tour through the "Fire Safety House". There will be plenty of face-painting and games for the kids. Admission is free, although donations will be appreciated and will benefit youth programs organized by the Optimist Club. Fireworks go off at dusk (rain or shine!) sponsored by the Kaitlin Group and the Port of Newcastle. IN THE WEEKS AHEAD VOICES OF LIBERTY -- A 100-voice mixed choir from Holland will present a "Thank-You Canadians" concert with organ and piano accompaniment at Mar.anatha Christian Reformed Church in Bowmanville on July 3 at 8 p.m. The Dutch choir is on a two-week tour in Ontario to thank Canadian Armed Forces for liberating the Netherland in World War Two.
