Richards Staff Writer Memorial Hospital Bowmanvillc's board of directors was told recently that hospitals need to meet the challenges and changes that the business world has been dealing with for a long time -- economics. Hospital AGM During the annual general meeting of the Bowmanvillc Hospital Foundation, Lcn Fabiano, the president of Fabiano Consulting Services Inc., challenged 30 people to look towards a future where employees arc valued members members of a company or organization's organization's team. The economy has driven business people to become more creative, Fabiano said. Along with company owners being creative, employees arc putting forward their own ideas, lie added. The best way for a company company to maintain itself and grow is to form a partnership with the employees. Fabiano noted that is what has been happening happening at Memorial Hospital, with good results. "Staff members need to know what they have to say is worthwhile," Fabiano said. "They will say, 'no matter my job, someone believes in me.'" If that's not the case, people people will cringe when they hear the word change. People need to know that no matter where they work or what they work at, they are considered to be valuable and their opinions are important. "Give individuals the same chance whether they are there full or part-time," he said. "Part-time people don't have the same opportunities to respond." In any kind of relationship, relationship, people need to be "always talking to each other and listening to understand beliefs, goals and values." Guessing, doesn't cut it, he ' stated; mediocre people, those who do not carry their weight, do not do anything but drag other people down, because someone else docs their work, plus their own. That creates more stress on what is already a stress ladcncd voyage, lie said. "To discourage burn-out, managers need to get their staff excited, motivated, and to see how important they arc to the organization," Fabiano said. He suggests having staff brain storming sessions including an exercise that gets people talking about how they think everyone looks at the challenges facing the company or organization. He suggested having something like listing five items under each of these subtitles 'How You Sec It, How Your Manager Secs It, and How Staff Secs It' for particular problems. "Hopefully through this, you can find co-ordinating ideas," he said. Re-election From page 1 Clarington Mayor Diane Ilamrc said Mr Scott has been a pleasure to work with and wished him well. The present three ward system system will be redrawn for the next municipal election which will open positions for four local councillors, but only two regional councillors. To date, three candidates have declared their intention to run for the easterly Ward Four local council scat. They are: Cecil Mackcscy, Charles Trim and Beverly Wakefield. Candidates have until October 10 to inform town hall staff if they want to run. Lcn Fabiano is a man who gets excited by challenges and changes. On Tuesday night, June 17, he spoke at the annual general meeting of Memorial Hospital - Bowmanvillc, about how management and all staff can be creative to save money and jobs. "I've been in organizations organizations where they have had lots of space, the best equipment equipment but there was no staff morale and the care stinks. "But, I've also been in others others where people are highly creative, the equipment is stuck together with duct tape, but the level of patient care is great," Fabiano said. Motivation is one of the keys of success in taking the word 'change' and making it a positive experience, Fabiano said. "Why do people do what they do -- because they care," he said. There are two equations which Fabiano noted. The first is that "staff plus management management equals a team." However, when an organization organization is "us plus them, that equals no team," he said. "Changes arc a test of how good your organization, team members and you are in meeting the challenges put to you," he said. "You do not know who you arc or what you believe until you are challenged," he stressed. He also explained that Subscribers outside of Canada Subscription Order Form Name:. Address:.
