Ted . Coombes Memorial Little World Cup. Thirty two teams from throughout southern Ontario assembled at North Yorks Esther Shriner Stadium for the competition. In round robin action, Darlington would lose 1-0 to Kitchener, edge Hamilton by the same 1-0 score, and Darlington Reactors Enter First Tourney in Peterborough The Darlington Reactors Girls' Under-13 Rep soccer team travelled. to Peterborough recently to take part in their first tournament. In the first three games the girls discovered what competitive competitive soccer is all about as they were introduced to a much more physical style of play. In their first game, a Peterborough team from the Premier division of the CGSL proved to be too strong in the second half and capitalized on their chances for a" 4-0 win. Strong play in the second second game saw the Reactors unlucky not to score against a team from Ottawa. After a close well fought game, the Ottawa team emerged 2-0 winners. Casine Barrett and Monika Janssen played very well in this game. Our last game of the day saw the Reactors matched up with a Regional team from Markham. We learned a valuable valuable lesson in ball control against a very physical team. On Sunday, the Reactors played their best game of the tournament as they defeated Barrie 2-0 to advance to the consolation finals. In this game the girls started to show some teamwork and were but supported her team at every game from the bench, a position she has decided she does not like! then totally out play Glenn. Shields, winning 3-1. At the end of this round, Kitchener, Hamilton and Darlington would each support support a 2 win, 1 loss record, while Glenn Shields was eliminated. Kitchener would advance first because of goal difference, while second second place between Hamilton and Darlington would be settled by penalty shots. During this episode of the competition, Darlington's first four shooters, Devon Potter, Rene Cartier, Scott Rietze and Trevor Delpippo, would easily score while Hamilton could only manage manage two goals, as goalkeeper Steve Mills would make an outstanding save on a Hamilton shooter and then win a battle of nerves with another. The fifth 86ers' shot by Ryan Fowler would not be required. The win would move the 86ers' into the final sixteen teams where unfortunately they would meet one of the Premier U-ll teams in the province, the Wexford Raiders. Although Darlington would put up a valiant effort against Wexford, on this day they Would be no match, losing 4-1. However, a goal by Adam Hobb, in the second half, wotild be the only goal given up by the Raiders in this tournament. They would easily dominate their opponents throughout the remainder of the tournament winning the Tre-Stella World Cup. Also scoring for Darlington during the competition competition were Ryan Fowler, Jeff Bouma, Rene Cartier and Derek VanHeuvelen. On Wednesday evening, it was back to league action with Darlington Mason Windows playing host to North Scarborough. Using what they had learned in the match with Wexford, the boys would turn in an outstanding outstanding effort winning 5-0. Cadet B Category (group 1) Jessica Robichaud, of Bowmanviile, finished 5th overall, placing 5th on vault and bars, and 6th on beam and floor.
