Canada Trust Vincent Massey Slo Pitch Teams Share Title The Vincent Massey co-ed 3-pitch teams captured the championship tournament for area schools. The two teams from Vincent Massey reached the finals, and decided decided to split the title. Team members include, not in order in above photo, Craig Wilcox, Raymond Young, Brad Griffen, Chris Trace, Andrew Marquardt, Andrew Weber, Zachary Vine, Jeremy Fair, Tyler Brown, Paul Reid, Matt Beech, Jason Wagg, Erin Haas, Amy Persia, Hilary Bray, Erin Lemke, Vanessa Holmes, Andrea Yeatman, Laura Preston, Christine Michalejko, Jenelle Farrow, Sheena Andrade, Christine Pyatt, Jackie Howarlh. Sunspace Spa Orioles Bounced in Extra Innings After coming off two big wins in Kingston, the Sunspace Sunrooms and Spas Orioles hosted Pickering at Newcastle Memorial on June 11. Pitching for the Orioles was Chris Sturgc who went, seven complete innings. After allowing two runs in the first inning the Orioles answered back with four runs of their own. Derek McGrath walked and Ryan Clarke hit a double knocking in Derek. Then Chris Sturge came to the plate and cranked a homer into center field. Gary Campbell and Dale Hubbs each hit singles singles setting things up nicely for Adrian Perry's double to drive in both Gary and Dale. The Orioles were able to score six more runs through the game and won this one 10-4, thanks to some great defensive plays by Drew Sharp, Mitchell Spencer, Steven Dell,. Ryan Cottrell, Chad RoWe and Robbie Ellerbeck. The Sunspace Orioles then headed to Cobourg on June 14 and 15 for a tournament. They were faced with some tough competition in their first two games as they faced Hamilton and then Bolton. The Orioles played outstanding baseball in these first two games with two come from behind victories. The third opponent in the round robin was E.O.B.A. rival Port Hope. The Orioles came out determined to go on to the Championship round and defeated Port Hope 8-1. In the first round of the championship the Orioles faced a triple 'A' squad from Clarkson-Lorne Park. Down 1-0 going into the bottom of the seventh inning the Orioles continued to fight back. With one out in the seventh Ryan Clarke hit a double off the center field fence. Ryan was substituted for on the base by a speedy Steven Dell. After a mistake by the Clarkson pitcher, Steven was able to steal third and then home to tie the game. Into extra innings the Clarkson team was able to score some more runs and downed the Orioles 5-1. This meant the Orioles were now headed for the 'B' Championship against Bloordale. The Orioles struck first in the first inning and never looked back as they defeated Bloordale 7-2 to take the 'B' Championship. Lawn Bowlers This past weekend was a busy one for. our Lawn Bowling Club. On Friday, June 20th, Re/Max Real Estate hosted a two-game mixed pairs Tournament which had to be cut off two ends short because of heavy rain. However, all competitors enjoyed the day, including refreshments and prizes for Trophy winners supplied by the sponsors Ian and Helen Smith. Ken Dawson of Bowmanville Club, was winning winning Skip with a score of 39 plus 7. Runners up were Bob Cameron with Dianne Merrill, also from the home club with a score of 34. Next team skipped by Gord Terwillegar of Oshawa, aided by Gerri De Mille scored 31 points. Fourth two-game winner Larry McLean with his wife, Yvonne scoring 26 points. One game high winner winner was another Bowmanville team consisting consisting of our President, Bert Watts with his wife, Norma, skipping and scoring 30 plus 10. Saturday, June 21, was the 25th time for the Fred Cole Memorial Trophy which is now being retired.
