The festival took place at the Clarington Visual Arts Centre in Bowmanville, and attracted many people who visited the numerous artists' booths, listened to live entertainment and took time to engage in the many workshops. Fair The season is changing. The grain is ripe and fall fairs are taking place everywhere. Come help celebrate the 132nd annual annual Blackstock Fair on Saturday, August 23rd. The theme for this year's fair is the Fabulous '50's. The buildings open at 9:00 a.m. and the colourful parade arrives at 11:00 a.m. led by the Durham Region Police Band. The fair is being opened by Neil Malcolm who was president of the fair in the early 1950's. The afternoon is filled with lots of activities. There is something for everyone. everyone. There are heavy/light and saddle horses. horses. You will also find dairy and beef cattle competing as well as various 4-H Clubs holding their Achievement Day. At 1:00 p.m. be sure to see the magic of Brian Michaels as he performs on the Recreation Centre stage. Other entertainment entertainment features include Three Mo' Sax and a Touch of Country. No country fair would be complete without cooking demonstrations. demonstrations. During the afternoon there are many free events happening at Kids' World. At 3:30 p.m., the Champion pie and cake will be auctioned auctioned off prior to the annual media milking contest. Be sure to have your raffle ticket on the beautiful quilt which was made by the ladies of the fair board to help raise funds for a new grandstand. grandstand. Following the completion of the horse show, the horse pull will begin. At 9:00 p.m. a dance will be held in the Recreation Centre featuring KX96FM morning host Jerry Archer. Admission to the fair is $6.00 for adults and $2.00 for children children 12 years of age and under. Pre-schoolers arc free. The Blackstock United Church will be hosting their annual beef supper supper just up the street from the fair. What a great way to end the day.
