Durham Dragons Ready to Hit the Ice Durham Dragons special hockey is back fora bigger, and better, third season. The Dragon 'Dream' became a reality reality lor Dave and Cindy King in 1995 with approximately thirty players. Their son, Kevin, played hockey in Toronto on a team for the developmental!)' challenged. challenged. With a number of players players from the Durham Region on the same team, the King's decided it was time for special hockey in the Durham Region. With months of planning and a lot of hard work, the dream came true. The players range in age from seven to forty years of age, and come from Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, Port Perry, Claremont, Courtice and Bowmanville. Not all of the players knew the game, but they wanted to learn and play. Under the guidance guidance of a fantastic coaching staff, the kids learned to skate and play hockey. The '96-97' season saw the players list expand to forty-two players on two teams, including including our first female player, Tammy Potter. The second season season was more exciting than the first. The third will be even better! better! The .'97-98' season, staring September 27, will see four teams of approximately 13 players per team. Plans for the season include a trip to New York for the fourth special hockey international tournament tournament in late November. There will be approximately eight teams involved. A tournament is also planned in the Parry Sound area in February 1998. We will also be playing regularly regularly against the Toronto teams at home and away. When playing playing on home ice, you will find the Dragons at the Ajax Community Centre . on Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Anyone regardless of age, gender or ability: is welcome to become a Dragon. The coaching coaching staff will help you learn to skate and play the game. Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research The 16th Annual Terry Fox Run for cancer research will be held in Bowmanville on Sunday, September 14. The annual 10km route will .begin and end at the Memorial Park Clubhouse on Liberty St. South, in Bowmanville. Participants can run, walk, stroll or rollerblade their way to help find a cure for cancer. Registrations are accepted on race day. Anyone wishing to obtain a pledge form prior ' to September 14 should contact contact organizers Roz Yeo (623- 4688) or Liz Bateman (263- 2960). Pledge forms are also available at McGregor IDA Drugs, and all major banks. -- CORPORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF CLARINGTON PUBLIC INFORMATION CENTRE PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION OF BRIDGE SPANNING WESTSIDE CREEK CONNECTING CEDAR CREST BEACH AND COVE ROAD The Municipality of Clarington, Public Works Department, has scheduled a Public Information Centre to discuss the preliminary design drawings associated with the proposed construction of a bridge spanning the Westside Creek, connecting the east end of Cedar Crest Beach Road, including construction of Cove Road. The proposed construction is required to facilitate the planned easterly expansion of the mining operation by St. Marys Cement Corporation Inc., which necessitates the closure of Waverley Road.
