On Thursday, Aug. 28, Lucas and Justin Shaughnessy joined Clarington Mayor Diane Hamre in proclaiming the month. Currently, there arc 18 boys waiting for Big Brothers in Clarington. Adult males over age 20 arc matched one-to-one with a boy aged six to 16 and arc asked to commit three to four hours per week to establish a friendship with a youngster who lacks a consistent consistent male role model in his life. Stuff stolen -- A Gainsville, Florida, man and a Glenallcn, Virginia, man reported that their clothing had been ransacked while in a trailer at Mosport. The two men had been in their racing clothes when the culprits struck. Scalping tickets -- Four men between the ages of 29 and 54 were caught selling tickets to a concert outside Mosport Raceway. An unknown number of tickets was seized for the investigation. investigation. Someone in house -- An elderly Newcastle woman was awakened during the night as an unknown person -- possibly female -- walked by her bedroom carrying carrying a flashlight. Police noted that the person gained entry through a rear basement window. The woman reportedly reportedly screamed and scared off the culprit who left empty- handed. Dangerous driving arrest -- A 49-year-old Quebec man was arrested for dangerous dangerous driving at the Mosport track. The man had been operating his vehicle on the track after racing had finished for the day and was waved down by a track employee. Police said the employee's hand was struck by the vehicle's vehicle's side view mirror. Then, an officer attempted to flag down the vehicle and was narrowly missed. There were no other injuries. Mother arrested -- A Clarington woman was arrested for assaulting her II- year-old son. Police said the boy bad been punched and grabbed by the throat. The Children's Aid Society has been called and the incident is under investigation. Damaged camera -- A representative of World Sports Enterprises from North Carolina reported that a television camera worth $750,000 had been pushed off the scaffolding at Mosport Park. Damage was described as substantial. Liquor Smuggling Network Disrupted Approximately 1,800 bottles of illicit alcohol have been seized by the RCMP and nine people apprehended in the recent bust of an illicit liquor smuggling ring. Three of the individuals are from Durham. The investigation into the smuggling and sale of illicit alcohol took place over nine months. The RCMP Customs and Excise section in Bowmanville worked in co-operation with the Durham Regional Police Services, as well as RCMP Detachments in Milton and Newmarket.
