The Bowmanville resident resident set four Canadian records during a recent 10- day trip through Germany. His odyssey began in Colgonc during a 100m race at a Grand Prix IAAF competition. He finished third in a Canadian record time of 12.32, in front of a crowd estimated at 35-40 thousand. He then travelled to Duddcrsladt, to begin final preparations for the Paralympics Revival, which represent the final meet of 1997. In the first round of the 100m he lowered lowered the Canadian record to 12.12, and then in the final, managed to set another Canadian mark with a time of 12.04, which placed him fifth overall. "In the course of one season my personal best has gone from 12.45 down to 12.04," says Snoek. "It once seemed foolish to even dream of running under 12 seconds, but now that goal is definitely within within reach." His fourth Canadian record of the trip came in the long jump with a leap of 5.77m, placing him second second behind the world record holder. It was the third time this year that lie bettered his own personal best in Canadian record fashion. Snoek also collected collected a silver medal in an international relay event, teaming up with two South African and another Canadian runner. Snoek, 28, who lost his left leg from the knee down at an early age, has represented Canada at the past two Paralympic Games in Atlanta and Barcelona, Spain. Bowmanville Eagles Nearing End of Exhibition Schedule The Bowmanville Eagles were blanked 7-0 by Strcctsvillc on Saturday afternoon at the Recreation Complex as the Provincial Jr. A hockey team continued its exhibition schedule. The loss dropped Bowmanville's record to 2-3-1 on the pre-season. In their other two home games played last week, the Eagles defeated Lindsay 6-3 on Tuesday, September 2, but lost to Cobourg, 4-3, on Thursday, September 4. Bowmanville will play their final exhibition game on Saturday afternoon against Stouffvillc. Game time is 2:30 p.m. They will open the regular season home schedule schedule on Sunday, September 21, against the Ajax Axemen. Game lime is 6:45 p.m. Mosquito Orioles Reach Semis at All Ontarios Held in Sault Ste. Marie The long trip to Sault Ste. Marie was well worth it for the young Mosquito Orioles as they had a strong showing at the provincial tournament. On Friday night the boys lost a close game 4-3 to the host team on a seventh inning hit off the first base bag. The team rebounded with a 6-3 win over Windsor which featured strong pitching and fielding with aggressive base running. Saturday afternoon the Orioles played North Bay and totally dominated in a 14-3 win. The bats were alive as hits came from all over the line-up. The Sunday morning semi-final opponent was the unbeaten team from Stratford who had won their first three games by at least nine runs each. Stratford scored three runs in the first two innings on six hits which included three that fell within a fool of the third base line. The Orioles replied with one in the second before both teams' pitching pitching settled in for the balance of the game. Those runs stood all the way with the 3-1 final eliminating the Clarington team. Stratford went on to win the final game easily.
