With Newcastle Optimists involved in the dance at the fair in Orono and with Newcastle Lions busy with Bingo at the fair and then the funeral of Diana on television on Saturday, people were just otherwise engaged. St. George's News On Sunday, September 7, the Reverend Ann Tottenham conducted both eight and eleven o'clock services at St. George's Anglican Church. Flowers at the altar were given by Pat and Betty Blaker. Coffee hour followed the service. On Sunday, September 14, the Reverend Ann will return for the 8 a.m. service. On Thursday evening at 6 o'clock, the ACW starts off their fall meetings with a pot luck luncheon, followed by a special speaker. United Church On Sunday, September 7th, at Newcastle United Church, Reverend Donald Stiles' sermon was Life in Transition. Mrs. Marie Pedwell sang the lovely solo, The Prayer Perfect. Sunday School classes started with co-superintendents - Janet Cringle and Patti Selby. Two teachers for the six classes would be ideal. Senior choir practice resumes on Thursday, September 11 at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, September 4, the Vacation Bible School program, program, Kids in Action, will be presented. September 21st, is Holy Baptism and September 28 there will be a musical treat, Mrs. Mel va Graham with a girls' choir of 25 voices from Grace Church on the Hill. On Thursday noon the Trillium Unit of the UCW enjoyed pot-luck luncheon. Elizabetfiville by Edna Thickson Mrs. Marjory Wcstheuscr died August 23, 1997. As most of her family live in various directions from her, it was hard to plan a funeral for when they could arrive. The funeral was held on Wednesday at 1 p.m., at Morris Funeral Chapel, Bowmanvillc. Visiting was Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9. Interment at St. George's Anglican Church, Gores Landing. Donations accepted by any charitable organization. Mrs. Wcstheuscr was well known and had taught music in the schools in Hope many years ago. On Thursday seniors had their games of cards and last week they had their August birthday dinner dinner and cards. I was unable to attend as we were busy fixing the septic septic tank and other things here. On the weekend Mae Muldrew attended the seniors' meeting at Millbrook and visited Leo Fallis who has been sick. On .last Sunday, the church service was held at Dorothy's House in Garden Hill. Reverend Whiston was our speaker. Music and lunch was a Garden Hill responsibility, I was unable to attend but a good crowd attended and Reverend brought play dough - which the children children enjoyed. . At Dorothy's House there was a flower display. The church service on the 31st was to be at Bebee's but it rained and it was transferred to Canton church as it was their turn for a change. It was more or less a regular church service and I hope I can get to the regular regular service at Garden Hill at 9 a.m. on September 7.
