But on September 13, the dream becomes reality, as hundreds of Courtice residents flock to the creek-side site south of Courtice Secondary School to check out the $6.5 million facility that is sure to become the showpiece showpiece in this growing community community of 15,000. Dr. Charles and Mrs. Jane Rowe as the first President and a Founding Executive Member of the Courtice and Area Community Association (faupMCctlate all concerned on the realization of three long-held goals: - a Library ■ a Recreational Facility and a Community Centre in Courtice Ribbon Cutting The Grand Opening of the Courtice Community Complex on Saturday will not only include ribboncutting ribboncutting speeches by politicians, politicians, fundraisers, and staff, but also inspirational words from Bowmanvillc- born Olympic gold medalist medalist ('84) Anne Oltcnbrite. Demonstrations of kayaking, snorkeling and synchronized swimming take place at the spectacular spectacular aquatic centre. It's all bound to generate generate a lot of loyal users. Joe Caruana, the town's Community Services Director, says residents have been Hooding his office with calls over the past two weeks. They have been asking about programs programs and memberships fees. "Judging by the number of calls in the last two weeks, we're going to be very pleased with the public public response," predicts Caruana. Big Draw Al Maraw, who will be responsible for pool maintenance maintenance and operation, has no doubt as to what the big draw will be as he points to the ceiling-high water slide with its triple twirl. "The slide is going to be the big feature," he says. "We're going to have a big success because of that." Six hundred gallons of water circulate through the slide every minute, with the capacity to speed it up or slow it down. Guards will be posted at the top and bottom. The main pool has a depth of three and a half feet in the shallow end and six and a half feet at its deepest point. Swimmers will have no hesitation getting wet. The water is a welcoming 83 degrees Fahrenheit with the air temperature a couple couple of degrees higher to control condensation. Aquatic Centre staff have the option of dropping dropping the temperature to 78 degrees in the event the pool is used for major swim competitions. Over at the tots' pool, the water is a balmy 90 degrees. The splash pad (circle of fountains) is another feature destined to be a hit with young families. Parents with small children children will also appreciate the family change room which offers plenty of space and privacy. Fitness Room . For older teens and adults, there is the fitness room and therapy pool. The equipment in the 900 square foot area includes a 14 unit multiweight multiweight system with individual individual weight stacks instead of one universal stack, giving more independent independent control over gf Rou TîicAüéb, •/ MOTORS A Family Tradition For Over 75 Veers Gs© <Z>Oldsmobile Congratulations on the opening of The Courtice Community Complex Business Toronto Line (905) 436-2222 (905) 427-4444 2728 Courtice Road • Courtice, Ontario • LIE 2M7 Corner of Hwy. 2 and Courtice Road COURTICE DENTAL ....
