The bike went to Jim Grant, of Courtice, who is pictured here along with his wife, Janet, and daughters Rebecca and Joëlle. Also shown arc John Jeffrey, a co-owner of Courtice Convenience and Nancy Scott, Executive Director of Big Brothers. Big Brothers was presented with a cheque for $200 ûs a result of the funds raised from the raffle. Tickets were sold throughout the summer. Cindy Ashton introduced Gary Ranalli of the Durham Board of Education to speak on "Intcrcultural Communications". Gary explained that the languages are sustained by each culture. Communication is not simply words, it is how it affects the culture. Racism cannot be legislated nor policed away, it has to be educated to people people of all ages. On behalf of the membership Betty Grant thanked Gary and presented him with a monetary gift. President Jean Taylor presided for the business- meeting. Cindy- . Ashton, Secretary-Treasurer gave the minutes and financial report. A review of summer . activities included the 100th anniversary celebration in Hamilton. Congratulations were expressed to Lois Yellowlecs who placed second second across Canada for her book "W.I. - A Family Affair", Our members and families enjoyed a picnic at Frank and Donna Barkey's. Several members visited the Ecology Gardens with Mr. Vallancourt in Bowmanville. The W.I. bake sale proceeds were $670.00. A "Special Interest" project project report prepared by Jenny Bowman showed much activity in these crafts. The 4- H club invited W.I. members to their Monday, September 15th meeting for square dancing, viewing or participation. participation.
