1 Page 12 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanvillc, October 1,1997 Jane Rowe Running for Ward One Council Seat After many years of community work and volunteer volunteer service, Jane Rowe lias decided to move on to a different level of community community service by running for Local Councillor in Ward 1 in the November 10, Clarington Municipal elections. Rowe and her husband of 27 years, Dr. Charles Rowe (Chuck), moved to their home in Courtice over 16 years ago and Jane has been active in the Courtice and Durham regions since that time. "The 'Volunteer Spirit' has always been an important important part of my life," Rowe said. Many of her volunteer activities have grown and changed as her two children, children, Darcy and Anlhca, grew. She was a regular volunteer in the Courtice area schools for over 10 years, serving in many capacities. She was also a Beaver Leader with Scouts Canada for three years. Rowe feels that her ability to be efficient, effective, organized, flexible flexible and responsive came from years of work as a full-time high school Biology/Ecology/Sciencc teacher with the Elgin County Board of Education and, since 1986, her work as a supply teacher with the Durham Board of Education. One source of pride for Rowe is that she and her husband were two of the original six founding members of the Courtice and Area Community Association. Her husband served as the first president president and she served on this first executive council. ,.She served as a citizen volunteer volunteer on the (former) [Newcastle Library Board 'and on their Library Needs ►Assessment Study. She believes that good management and stewardship stewardship can maximize the quality of the environment through proper development development of parks, green space and environmentally fragile fragile lands while still maintaining maintaining our rich agricultural agricultural heritage. Rowe also secs a need for a bigger business tax base in Clarington and would work with Municipal Staff toward the goal of encouraging conscientious conscientious commercial development that again would be carefully balanced balanced with environmental and urban living considerations. considerations. Another goal is to anticipate future needs in this rapidly growing community community and establish priorities. priorities. An example of this is the need to increase the Fire Protection service in response to the increasing population. A priority would be to find the funds for a 24-hour Fire Station in Courtice. "I believe in accountability, accountability, good management, stewardship, and civic duly," Rowe said.
