Saturday, October 4, 1997 Page 5 Statesman Toros Undefeated to Start Season The Canadian Statesman Minor Atom "AA" Toros have begun their 97/98 hockey season. The year began with the boys travelling to Pickering for an exhibition game against the Panthers. After a disorganized start, the local boys put it together to defeat the Panthers 5-2. The boys then travelled back home to again take on the Panthers. This time, the Panthers were not going to be denied for their strong effort. With 34 seconds remaining, the Panthers were able to tie the game at 5-5. The next stop took the boys to Whitby to meet the Wildcats for the regular season season opener. The game was fast, end-to-end hockey, with the local Toro boys prevailing in a well-earned 4-3 victory. The boys again packed their bags and travelled travelled back to Pickering. This time the Toros squad was up for the challenge. The game was fast and furious, with the Toros skating away with a 4-2 victory.
