I -T. •v Tree-Lighting Memorial The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, October 15, 1997 Page 3 The Christmas season is a difficult time for families who have experienced a loss, whether it is recent or in the past. With the holidays comes time to reflect on family and those who arc no longer with us. The tree on Temperance St., by the Bank of Montreal in Bowmanville, will be used this year to create this unique memorial. • The Rotary Club of Bowmanville proposes a "Tree of Mope" that would remain lit through the holiday season from December 5th to January 1st. The tree has been lit with white lights, but this year a light may be purchased by a donation to a local char ity of your choice in memory of a loved one. For each donation one white light will be replaced with a green one. Each individual green light will symbolize the life of a loved one who has passed away. After the closing date for accepting donations for the individual lights, the tree would then have all the green lights added. At a special ceremony ceremony on the evening of December 5th in conjunction with the B.I.A. Christmas Moonlight Magic the tree would be lit and remain lit until January 1st, 1998 thus enabling people to remember their loved ones during the holiday season. Special Delivery at MHB From page 1 hours after discharge to discuss discuss any concerns they might have. For further follow-up, new families can request home visits and support services services from either the Public Health nurses on a "need" basis, or the VON, through a partnership with MHB. Mitchell says by implementing implementing the program, MHB has taken a leadership role as the provincial government government continues to urge community hospitals to get together with outside health agencies and services. "We're sort of a step Tuesdays at TacoTime Bowmanville Located at the Flying Dutchman Plaza TacoTime - ahead in initiating this program," program," she says. Approximately 400 babies arc born each year at Memorial Hospital and the number of births to date for 1997 shows no slackening of the numbers. Mitchell notes that the hospital's two new female obstetricians, Dr. Singh and Dr. Caccia, are still accepting accepting new patients in the Bowmanville, Orono, and Newcastle area. Since April, the Obstetrics Ward has had a 24-hour "rooming in" policy policy in place, where newborns will stay in the room with their mother during this crucial crucial time in a move toward "family centered" maternity care. Hospitals across the province have been implementing implementing the rooming in policy policy and phasing out the central central observation area. An observation room Will still be in place in the case of special medical . circumstances. circumstances.
