1 ( Page 12 The Clarington/Courticc Independent, Bowmanville, Saturday, October IS, 1997 News by Jacqueline Vaneyk The wonderful weather of last week and weekend got everyone well on the way with bean harvest and silo filling. A virtual explosion of preventive preventive health care information information in recent years - everything from getting regular aerobic exercise to eating cancer-fighting antioxidants found in fruits and vegetables - is helping us lead healthier, longer lives. When it comes to prevention, it's important to remember that oral health is also an important part of our overall overall health. Dental Hygiene Week, October 19 to 25, is the perfect time to think about your oral health and oral hygiene habits. According to some estimates, as many as 75 per cent of adults over the age of 30 may suffer from some degree of gum disease, the leading cause of tooth loss. However, this condition condition can usually be controlled controlled or even reversed with immediate, proper care and good oral hygiene habits. More than protecting against gum disease and tooth decay, evidence now suggests that good oral hygiene can help protect against other illnesses caused by periodontal bacteria bacteria infections. A recent study showed that new mothers with periodontal disease were seven times more likely to deliver a pre-term low weight baby. It is also believed that bacteria bacteria from periodontal infections may block the blood vessels, potentially leading to heart disease and stroke. "The importance importance of maintaining good oral health habits cannot be ignored, especially in light of some of this new research," says Evie Jcsin, President of the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario, from Tyrone bers of her family recently attended the wedding of her grandson, Paul Hoar, of Vancouver. The ceremony ceremony was held in the chapel of Treasure Island Hotel in Las Vegas. Holiday weekend guests of Audrey Roscvcar were John and Nan Roscvcar of Kenton, Manitoba. The Roscvcar family Thanksgiving was held here at the farm with 40 people enjoying a turkey dinner, and the beautiful outdoors. Cousins came from Waterloo, Guelph, Barrie, and the Bowmanvillc- Tyronc area. Archibald Orchards have been very busy lately. Graccland boogied into the classroom classroom of Father Bill Maloney at St. Stephen's Secondary School Friday afternoon, Oct. 10. The gorilla, sporting a pink ruffle around her waist and a bright red pnlkadol ribbon on her head, danced to a new, dance- able version of 'Amazing Grace.' The gorilla's appearance at the high school was part of an ongoing practical joke. Last summer, an employee employee at the CIBC branch in Bowmanville who was visited by a bagpipe player player on her birthday suspected suspected Father Bill was behind the serenade. At that time, she told the photographer called to record the event that she was going to work some "sweet revenge." Apparently, it was no idle threat. Presumably, the score is now even.
