Ask yourself why you do this? Do you find it interesting, frustrating, or arc you concerned about the safely of your investment portfolio? , . L ■ „ . This type of activity - watching, reading or simply listening to media hype about the market has become a favourite pastime of many Canadians. But again, ask yourself why you do this? The majority of people invest for a particular reason, whether it is to fund retirement or pay for a child's post secondary education. The most important part of a financial plan is your own personal goals. If you are sticking to your long-term financial plan - it is not necessary to think short-term. Keep in mind investing for short-term goals (ie. buying a car or a home) is a different process, it takes patience as an investor to attain your long-term goals. So...if you are not planning to touch your RRSPs or investment portfolio or are not planning to draw an income from your portfolio, you do not need to follow your investments on a daily basis (unless you enjoy doing so). What you should concern yourself with most is whether or not you are in sight of achieving your specific goals. Your portfolio should be reviewed on a regular basis, usually annually, and any appropriate adjustments should be made (if necessary) at that time. Remember - if your investment portfolio is well diversified, investing should not be stressful. Work closely with a financial consultant to achieve your own financial goals. Don't get caught up in thinking short-term about money that is meant for a long-term goal. Stay focused on your long-term plan! Watch for next month's topic - "Were you horn in 1926,1927 or 1928?" The theme this year is "A Healthy Partnership" ... you and your pharmacist finding solutions together.
