Mike Duggan "I had coached for a long time and I basically got burned out," Duggan, a former Bowmanville resident, resident, told The Statesman recently. Last season, Duggan led his Lady Lords basketball basketball team to a 13-1 league record, and the school's first-ever Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) gold medal in Division I with a victory over Seneca. At the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association championships in British Columbia, the team finished finished fifth in the country. In two years as head coach, he compiled an overall record of 37-23. Even though he isn't coaching basketball this year, he took over the reins of the school's golf team from previous coach Ryan Hughes. Duggan, who is a six handicap, admitted the team struggled this year. The golf team finished eighth at the OCAA Championships in Brockvillc. "We didn't get going until mid-September, and we only had lwo-and-a- half weeks of practice before the OCAA's," Duggan explained. "We missed out on every tournament, tournament, so we had no time to get ready." The golf team was resurrected resurrected this year after a two-year hiatus. Beaver Lumber built their defensive wall and every player on the team kept on working hard and skating hard. The Beaver Lumber team is showing a lot of great skill, desire and determination. The second game this weekend, on Sunday morning, they won 10-0. Goalie Peter Hamilton has two shutouts in three games, and has played extremely well in the net for Beaver Lumber. William Minnema continues continues to play a strong two- way game. He played on defence for the first game and still managed to lead the team on offence. Hard work paid off for Brennan Lachance (3 goals, 3 assists), Trevor Munce (3 goals, 2 assists), Jonathan Cusack (1 goal, 2 assists), and Kyle Maclean (1 goal, 1 assist). Taylor Dingman, the most improved player, played very well and was rewarded with two goals and two assists. Jake Cary, Keith Colterman, Travis Buttonshaw, Dylan Bonnett, Pat Lemieux and Mark Hilker all had two assists, and Brad Bunnett had one assist. Prestons Split With Lindsay And Innisfil . Clarington Preston the Movers Minor Atom Toros hockey club split a pair of weekend games, defeating Lindsay 2-1 and falling 5-2 to Innisfil. On Saturday, the Atom Toros hosted Lindsay and skated away with a hard earned 2-1 victory on goals by Ryan Webb and Matthew Smith, with assists going to Kurds Salway, Eric Kemp, and Jordan Beaudrie. Robbie Goddard started started in net for Clarington and held off the visitors from Lindsay, leaving with a 2-0 lead. Matthew Cooper came on in relief and made several fine saves to preserve the 2-1 victory, as Lindsay tired to stage a rally in the dying minutes of play trying to score the equalizer. equalizer. The Toros travelled to Innisfil on Sunday night for another league game and found themselves on the short end of a 5-2 score.
