Your options include die following: ( 1 ) Convert to CASH - the amount of your RRSP cashed will be added to your 1997 income 'Fully taxed as income* (2) Convert to an ANNUITY - a fixed stream of payments from a life insurance company or a financial institution, based upon interest rales at the lime the annuity was purchased (AU. future income is loeked-in at today's low interest rates) (3) Convert to REGISTERED RETIREMENT INCOME FUND (ItUIF) - a RR1F is essentially the reverse of an RRSP, instead of making yearly contributions, you must withdraw a minimum amount of money each year (based on a percentage of what you have invested and your age or your spouse's age) 'Built In flexibility* (4) Any COMBINATION of the above three options It is very important to seriously consider your options and choose die option which is best for you. Making a well-informed decision will have significant lax implications and have an affect on your retirement income. Any of the above four options for converting your RRSP at maturity may be suitable for you depending upon your personal financial situation. Many factors should be considered when making this decision including your retirement income needs and your desired lifestyle during your retirement years.
