Hampton is still leading with 46 points. Newtonshaw 37, Solina 34, T.B.A. (my team) 22, Eldad UCW Holds Meeting Eldad U.C.W. V held their meeting December 1. Our president Pat Best welcomed everyone and gave a message on the Advent Season. The lighting of the first candle signifies Hope! The future candles represent represent Peace, Joy and Love. The hymn "A Candle is Burning" was sung, accompanied by Joyce Taylor on the piano. The minutes were read and financial report given by our secretary Alma Langmaid. There will be approximately 35 attending attending the Maureen Forrester Concert for our Christmas party and afterwards a social hour at the home of Pat Best, We will be supplying lunch for the Sunday , School on White Gift Sunday. Donna displayed the new cart for moving chairs easily. Gifts were placed under the tree for "Helping Hands". The annual reports for '97 were completed, with considerable discussion. For our social time together we had hot cider and Christmas Goodies. Our meeting closed with the hymn "Hope is a Star". Durham College Brings Home Chemical Achievement Awards Four Durham College students were presented with awards for their achievement in chemistry- related programs by the Toronto sections of the Chemical Institute of Canada and the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering. Jennifer Wood, an Environmental Technology student, and Sital Bailey, a Food and Drug Technology student each received a medal from the Canadian Society for Chemical Technology. This award is presented to a student in his/her final year of a chemical-related program, for the highest standing in that program. Wood and Bailey also received a cheque and a one year membership to the Chemical Institute of Canada. Mike White, an E n v i r o n'm c n t a 1 Technology student and Tim Lance, a Food and Drug Technology student were awarded with Book Prizes by the Chemical Institute of Canada and the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering. These awards are given to students who show the most improvement in their standing in a chemistry- related program. Hi C's 23 1/2, Courticc 4 1/2. 50-50 draw was won by Terry Price. Hampton card party had a belter number out this week and winners were: High - Muriel Bulson 87, Ambrose O'Halloren 77, Betty Kuycr 75, Alvin Spencer 72, Harvey Yellowlees 71. Low - Marie Brooks 54. Draws - Pauline Raymond, Bernice Renton, Verna Robinson, Marie Brooks, Clarence Bray. Come again this week. There will be two more sessions before a Christmas break (December 10 and December 17). The card party at Solina Hall had 8 1/2 tables. Everyone had a good time and the winners were - High - Isobcl Hamm, Helen Gilroy, Bill McHugh, Marg Hall. Low - Billie Brown. Most lone hands - Clarence Bray. Special number - John Broome, Lucky draws - Betty Lynch, Franc Svctcc, Helen Gilroy, Ruby Smith (2), Lloyd Broome, Norma Glober, Billie Brown. Guests this week with Harvey Yellowlees were John Schoondcrbcck, Enfield, Mary Balson of Bowmanvillc and Dennis, Karen, Christine and Jennifer Yellowlees of Ncstlcton. Vi Ashton, Charles and Alma Langmaid attended a birthday party for their brother Garnett Goyne on Friday evening. There was a full church on Sunday. It was good to see. Come again next Sunday. It was While Gift service. The theme was "The Shepherd's Child". Greeters were from the primary class. Ron Tidy was organist for the service. service. Sunday School superintendent Alan Garbe was the chairman. The service service was presented by the Sunday School pupils with readings, musical selections, selections, a play and other numbers. Each one did their part well. The White Gift presentation filled several large boxes with toys and food to be -given to the Salvation Army. After the service all were invited to the lower hall where a bountiful lunch prepared by the U.CAV. was enjoyed. Then Santa Claus came for a visit. The children, and some adults too, told Santa their wishes for Christmas. He gave candy and a small gift to the children. Special thanks to the Sunday School teachers and all who helped make it such a meaningful service. Ross and Marjorie Crydcrman entertained the Crydcrman family on Sunday. Tom and Marilyn Morawetz and their family entertained a few neighbours neighbours and friends with a dinner and evening at their home Sunday. Thanks to the Morawctzes for a lovely lovely time together. Cancer Society Honors Volunteers The Canadian Cancer Society (Clarington Branch) recognized long-serving volunteers volunteers at a Recognition Night held Tuesday, November 25th. Pictured above arc just a few of the volunteers who were presented with certificates. Honorées included included the following persons who earned 10-ycar certificates: Merle Avery, Ralph McIntyre, Richard Snyder, Pat Schell, Ernest Eves, Pat Street, Sophie Pridie, Betty Macklin, Emily Slutc and Ulva Calvcr. Fifteen-year certificates went to Annamac Barnard, Dr. Paul Hoy, Bert Johnston, Isabel Carlson, Marjorie Huxtcr, Muriel Moynes, Margaret Gicsbcrgcr, Doug James and Les and Rhoda Smales. The following following persons received 20-year certificates: Pat Anderson, Marilyn Dow, Doris Gcisbcrgcr, Linda Johnson, Mike Slocombc and Gloria Smith. We need your help this holiday season. Toys will be collected by the Salvation Army for distribution to local children. You can make sure Santa doesn't miss a single child in Clarington.
