Orono United Church News On a glorious beautiful, sunny Sunday morning a good crowd was thrilled to sec and hear the St. Stephen's School band of Bowmanville, filling.up the front of the church. Their music was excellent. Congratulations to Miss Debbie Harrison, band leader! It is refreshing to hear of school bands throughout our areas, because many schools have been "downsized" in music, among other things! On a personal note we have two grandchildren in Peterborough in music, and of course, a great grandchild in Clarington Band. The lighting of "Christ Candle" was conducted by Brian and Laura Head and family. The Sunday School presented the play "Whose Birthday is it Anyway?" and the children were delightful! The ambitious ladies of Unit 4, thirteen members altogether provided a delicious delicious turkey dinner and all the fixings to 28 members of the Heather Rcbckah Lodge on Tuesday December 9.. As you readers can observe, this musical treat was a rare chance for everyone to hear. A delicious lunch followed followed for everyone to visit and enjoy goodies. Hall on Monday, December 8th at 6:30 p.m. for their Annual Pot Luck Dinner. Mrs. P. McIntyre and Mrs. C. Russell with Mrs. W. Laird at the piano sang their 'Welcome Song'. With the help of 4 of our U.C.W. ladies and Mrs. Laird at the piano, we sang several Christmas carols while the tables were cleared. The collection was in the aid of the Salvation Army Christmas hampers and amounted to $212.20. The U.C.W. was in charge of the following program. program. A U.C.W. choir composed composed of Barb Oliver, Doreen Kelsey, Joan Russell, Marg Down, Betty Snowden, Dale Gearing and Florence Crydcrman with Edna Laird at the piano sang "Here Come Santa Claus". Joan Russell gave a reading entitled "Negotiations before Christmas". The choir then sang "Twas the night before Christmas". Mrs. S.
