The first game of the scries was far from impressive as each team had a short bench and did not give any indication that they were there to win. Although captain Clayton Kohn tried to lead the way with his hard work, only a few made the effort to follow. If not for •the excellent form of Brett Cooper in net, the score would have been much higher then 4-2. Game two saw a little better commitment from the players as we had a full bench including Chris Laton and Jamie McCarthy from the Major Bantams. Although the Toros had their chances, the puck just wouldn't find the back of the net and they went down 3-1. The Goodyear Midget Toros had a good season. The highlight was winning the Vic Teal Tourn. in St. Catharines and making it to the semi-finals and finals in two others. With the minor hockey careers coming to an end for some of the players, their conduct would do Bowmanvillc and surrounding surrounding districts very proud as they have been first class all the way. The boys thank the many coaches and volunteers that have contributed in their development. It goes without saying that without without our many sponsors it would be almost impossible impossible to run an excellent program. program. With insufficient registration registration to ice a Midget Hockey Team in either Orono or Newcastle area, players joined together to enter a Midget/Juvenile team in the Lakcshorc Non-contact league. This team, playing out of Newcastle, was sponsored sponsored by Newcastle Autobody. The league was made up of seven teams from Bcwdlcy, Port Hope, Baltimore, Grafton, Cobourg (with 2 teams) and Newcastle. After 24 league games, the Newcastle squad was tied with Bewdley, but having a better record against Bewdley earned Newcastle first place, followed followed closely by Grafton and the two Cobourg teams. A round robin playoff saw Newcastle emerge with an 8 win, I loss, 3 tie record. Scoring 56 goals and allowing only 25 in the 12 playoff games. Again Newcastle and Bewdley were in a tie for top spot. But Newcastle's only loss was against Bewdley. Even though Bewdley had lost two games, they still have a better record against Newcastle. So it was Bewdley who were declared playoff champs. The Newcastle Autobody team travelled to Bcamsvillc for their one and only tournament. After playing "Non- contact" all season this Midget/Juvenile "Full- contact" tournament was eagerly awaited. After defeating Schombcrg 5-3 in the opening game, Newcastle were defeated 5-2 by a strong team out of London, but still enough to advance to the semi's. Up against the home team, from Bcamsvillc, the nine Newcastle skaters and their two goalies hung tough, finally bowing out 3-2 in overtime. Playing for Newcastle were: Goal: Darryl Burke, Dustin Stapleton, Defense: Chris Davis, B.J. Hackett, Craig Harness, Devon Witheridge; Forward: John Armishaw, Ryan Brannigan, Jim Conboy, Steve Foster, Dale Frew, Greg Ludwinski, Jamie Metcalf, Vince Norton, Chris Peldiak, Jamie Ricthcr. Players and parents would like to thank coaches coaches Jim Conboy and Rick Armishaw for an entertaining entertaining season.
