The first play to ever grace the stage of B.H.S. was Broadway in 1977, and since then, the school has performed musicals, from the famous to the infamous. infamous. Among the many productions are The Sound of Music, Grease, (1990) West Side Stoiy ( 1992) and many others. This year's Bye Bye Birdie will surely go down in history, with her 8 staff, 70-80 students and many outside volunteers who have been committed since the beginning of the year. From rehearsing 3-4 times a week to attending weekend practices as opening night draws close, we arc certain Bye Bye Birdie will soar. The following talented young actresses and actors: Fraser McArthur (as Conrad Birdie), Mandy Baker (as Kim MacAfce), Amanda Barchard and Rebecca Vatchcr (as Rosie Alvcrcz), and Scott Read and Jamie Shrives (as Albert J. Peterson) will be joined by their fellow actors as they sing and dance the story of Bye Bye Birdie. Bye Bye Birdie was based on the famous "King of Rock" Elvis Presley and how he was drafted into the army. For all you King fans out there, you can discover the ending of the story by seeing seeing this promising production production from April 29 - May 2, 1998. Between the Easter break and midterms, the students have had their hands full. Somehow they have still managed to make time for Grease week, which was put on by Student Council. The week incorporated a series of events including a hula hoop contest, rootbeer float chugging contest, a dance competition and a dress up day in recognition of the re- release of the movie Grease. Student Council is also in the process of planning the next school dance which will lake place on May 8th and getting feedback about the recent presentations of the uniform policy for next year. Senior students have also been getting ready for graduation graduation which will take place on June 24, 1998 at St. Joseph's Church in Bowmanvillc. Graduates have to pay a graduation fee of $45.00. If you only attended first semester and would like to attend do not forget to contact the school and tell them you will be graduating. Also, a reminder to those who are planning to attend the Prom: a deposit is now due. It will be held May 29th at Cullen Gardens, speak to Jcnn Mcgcsi and Kelly Eeuwes for more information. In sports news, the badminton badminton team had an excellent excellent showing at Cobourg East. Girls' soccer tryouts will be beginning this week and a jogging club has been started for those who have intentions of getting fit for the summer holidays. The annual spring play is also under production. It will be presented on April 22, 23, 24 and 25th at 8:00 p.m in the auditorium. It is the biggest ever produced by St. Stephen's. The cast consists of 31 students, the pit band has 10 members and 20 other students and teachers are involved in the other aspects of the play. The production is a musical based on the story of Samson as it is told in the Bible. The script was written written by our dramatic arts teacher, Mr. Sheridan. He and Ms. Hickling arc directing directing the play. The lyrics were written by Bridget Hogan and Stephanie Jeronimo. The pit band is being direct ed by Ms. Harrison. The singing for the musical is being directed by Ms. Hcffcrnan. The set is up and was designed by Mr. Mollclla, who is our visual arts teacher and is responsible responsible for the overall visual presentation of the production. production. The crew responsible for the costumes consists of Ms. Sanders, Mrs. Fabian, Mrs. Goodinc, Ms. Wytka, Ms. Hickling and Robyn Bloye. The lead role of Samson is being played by Chris Cook.
