Catching Up From page 7 Community Care, as well as Durham Access to Care to ensure the minister understands the needs right here in Durham. My view is that we must have the community services in place as the hospitals discharge discharge patients quicker. Regarding the recent announcement on Charity Casinos, the Peterson government government approved casinos; casinos; the Rae government introduced the Windsor Casino and the Roving Charity Gaming Clubs. There were over 15,000 charity gaming days per year throughout Ontario. These temporary gaming gaming events were virtually unregulated and were not easily secured. Our consultations consultations have revealed that gambling exists already in the form of bingos, bingos, Nevada break-open tickets, lottery tickets, raffles raffles and an estimated 20,000 illegal video lottery lottery machines. Let us face the fact that gaming exists. It must be regulated and a significant share of the proceeds must go to charities and other services like health care. My own view is not supportive supportive of gambling in every town and city. I also intend to ensure that the minister's commitment that any community that says NO to a casino is honored. Good Friday, Easter, Passover, the Muslim feast of Bid ul-Adha and many other religious and cultural celebrations occur at this time of year. Spring is a time of renewal and growth, I prefer to respect all religions as well as traditional traditional values. My hope is that every person has a family to share witli and enjoy their celebration. Farm Visit Dr. Bob McCrac, of the Port Perry and Brooklin Veterinary Hospital, shows visitors a cow-sized aspirin at the Dairy Farm Tour north of Oshawa on Saturday, April 11. Approximately 2,000 visited the Loa-de-Mcdc Farm for the Open House sponsored by Durham Region's Dairy producers. The day included included a visit to the barn to sec a working dairy herd and informative outdoor displays displays about the milk industry. Christian Farm Group Calls for; Environmental Loan Program j The Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario is calling on the provincial government to create a new loan program for environmental improvements improvements on farms. At its recent meeting of delegates from across the province, CFFO's Provincial Board endorsed the idea of having the Ontario government create a new environmental loan program. Members of the CFFO have been discussing discussing the program concept concept for the past several months within the Federation's committees and "think tanks." "Ontario framers have demonstrated a desire and willingness to be responsible responsible stewards of the province's soil, air and water," said Bob Bcdggood, the CFFO's president. "Our loan program program initiative provides a means of funding projects that would be good for the countryside, but that will provide a few financial benefits to farm enterprises." enterprises." According to Bcdggood, many Ontario farmers have identified environmental improvement improvement projects on their farms they would undertake undertake if adequate funds were available at an atlrac- live interest rate. However,' most of those projects arc J usually shelved in favour!; of other on-farm investments investments that can generate a" financial return on borrowed borrowed money with standard standard interest rates.
