But their biggest victory in recent years may have come in the boardroom. After four years of unsuccessful attempts, the Toros have finally been approved for the Triple A status that they have desperately desperately wanted. Beginning in the 1999- 2000 season, the Clarington Toros will be recognized as a Triple A centre from minor novice to midget age categories. "It's time," was how Clarington Triple A coordinator, coordinator, Dave Larsh, summed up the good news. For the past five seasons, Clarington has been a part of the Central Ontario zone, which has entered teams in the Eastern Ontario Triple A league. The zone, which adopted the nickname Wolves, had most of the teams based in Lindsay. Clarington was the biggest centre within the zone. And, based on registration, registration, competitiveness, and population, it was only a matter of time before the Toros made the jump up from their 'AÀ' designation. designation. After Clarington's application to the zone committee was turned down, an appeal was launched. "(Central) didn't want to sec us go," said Larsh. "They would have liked to sec us slay. But I think they recognized that eventually we would go Triple A. They were just trying to hang on as long as they could." A hearing at the OMHA level was granted, and following following the presentation, Clarington's application to be designated a Triple A centre was granted. The appeal process was the last hurdle, and surprisingly, a relatively easy one to clear. "We've answered the questions so many times in the past," said Larsh of the presentation. "It was just a matter of repeating the answers." Though the official status status doesn't come into effect until the '99 season, there is a chance that some of the age groups could compete as Triple A teams next year. Most notably is the novice age group. But, a lot depends on the number of teams entered, and if a balanced balanced season can be maintained maintained when the schedule meetings take place in August. Only 15 players from Clarington were members of Central Ontario Wolves teams this season. But that number is deceiving, considering considering that many families balk at the idea of having to travel to Lindsay for a home game. As Larsh secs it, many of the AA teams now competing for the Toros will find the transition transition to a higher level of hockey a relatively easy one. "It's our ambition to offer Triple A, AA, A, select, and house league hockey in Clarington," said Larsh. "There won't be any level a boy or girl living Tn Clarington can't find to play." : DUNN'S in the Oshawa Centre Hospital Team Wins Title As the smallest Hospital entered in the Toronto St. Michael's Hospital Hockey Challenge, the Bowmanvillc team bad their work cut out for them.
