Throne Speech is a Step Ahead MPP Says Hospital Emergency Department Gets A "Facelift" People needing Emergency services at Memorial Hospital Bowmanvillc over the next few months won't be the only ones receiving care. The Emergency Department at the Hospital will undergo some modifications to enhance patient privacy and confidentiality, comfort and safety. During the renovations, renovations, the Emergency Department will still be open to serve patients. "We're initiating these modifications in response to comments from patients, their families and hospital and medical staff," explains Marion Tink, the Hospital's Program Director for Critical Care. The changes to the Department include: • redesigning the patient registration area to allow for scaling and privacy during registration • implementing a numbering system to call patients in the waiting area and eliminating the current whiteboard sign-in • adding dividers between stretchers to replace the current curtains to improve patient privacy during examinations examinations and when receiving test results • relocating the area where patients arc registering to a separate room, away from the often-congested main corridor • providing a play area for youngsters away from the main waiting room area to reduce congestion in the hallway hallway Irish Heritaqe Day Act Introduced in Ontario Legislature Durham East MPP John O'Toole has tabled his private private member's bill in the Ontario Legislature entitled, "An Act to proclaim March 17th, 'Irish Heritage Day' in Ontario." The Act, if passed into law, will establish March 17th as a provincially recognized day on which the historic legacy of Ontario's Irish community will be commemorated commemorated and celebrated. "The Irish brought to this country and province their values of hard work, service to the community and devotion devotion to family," said John O'Toole. "For over 300 years, the Irish community has made a valuable contribution to Canada's founding and development as a nation." O'Toole introduced his bill on April 28th. On May 14th, his proposed bill will be presented in the Legislature for debate. If it passes the vote, it will go to a Legislative Committee for public hearings and having having successfully completed that step, will then be referred back to the Legislature for Third and Final Reading and Royal Assent.
