Our guest speaker, Hilary Pittcl, of Avicare organization, was introduced to us and a really really delightful presentation followed, with a beautiful colored display of scenery and of course many types of birds, injured and otherwise. otherwise. Avicare is located at R.R. #4 Bowmanville. Their newsletter very interesting 'paper on 1 "Bird Rehabilitation"! This organization is licensed by "Environment Canada". Injured birds and water fowl are brought to the premises and assessed as to the type of injury etc. and if necessary then trained veterinarians are called. The president brought the business and secretary read previous minutes. Treasurer brought an encouraging financial report. The ladies of unit #1 brought the devotions entitled entitled "Community at Large", telling us of the prayers needed lor so many all over the world. Our bit project is the Bazaar on this Saturday. Community Care Dinner Was held Wednesday noon, April 29, in Main hall of Orono United Church, with a full crowd. The ladies of St. Francis of Assisi, Newcastle were in charge of the tasty dinner. Menu of Shepherds Pie, vegetables, salads, rolls and dessert. Now to top off this, these same ladies presented presented a hilarious "Fashion Show", using the theme. "Recycle, Reuse!" The first model showed off a very colorful gown, using kitchen curtains. The second model modelled a gown of newsprint, this one designed by Mr. Star. Another model arrived in boxes and this included the foot wear in boxes. Another gown entitled "Miss Tea Party" and made of tea bags (used) and slogan "Only in Canada You Say". "Instant Rainwear" dressed in garbage bags and shoes milk bags! The "June Bride" was elegant in lace doilies and veil of shower curtains. Of course another use for shower curtains the bride and groom could shower together to conserve conserve water! The entire theme was "Save the Environment". Of course the group were thanked for the lovely lunch and excellent entertainment. entertainment. Our next Community Care dinner will be May 27 and this will be the last until next fall. A word of appreciation to Community Care and all the church groups that supply supply the dinners. This year really celebrating! The band is trying to stir up any old copy of the late 1890's! There will also be a "real live" Town Crier in costume of course. Fun in the Forest The Ganaraska Forest Centre was the site of a "Forest Membership Appreciation Day" on Sunday, May 3. Forest Centre members enjoyed hikes, food, face-painting, information displays, a visit from a clown, and much more. One of the activities at the centre was a crafts table where children of all ages were invited to slop and make a craft from materials that included objects found in the forest.
