May 9. 1998 Halenda Atoms Share 'A Title with Crow's Halenda's Atom house league team wrapped up llieir season by co-winning the "A" Championship in a series with the team formerly formerly called Crow's. In the first game. Crow's skated to a 4-3 win. Scoring for Halenda's were Derek Johnston, Andrew Carvajal and Alex Andringa, with two assists going to Brandon McDaniel. Game two saw the Crow's team take a 4-1 lead over half way through the game.with Halenda's lone goal scored by Alex Andringa with assists to Alex Smith and Brandon McDaniel. But as throughout throughout the season the boys and girl from Halendas didn't give up and they slowly fought back on goals from Jamie Richardson and Brandon McDaniel, with assists going to Jetty Thompson and Ben Krooncnbcrg, closing the gap to 4-3. Crow's then scored another goal to take a two goal lead. Again Halenda's narrowed the gap to one on a nice goal by Andrew Carvajal assisted by Angelo Lyall. With time running down and Halenda's goaltendcr racing to the bench, Brandon McDaniel cut in front of the net and tucked the tying goal in the corner assisted by by Angelo Lyall and Alex Andringa. Game three had Halenda's come out flying and opened up a three goal lead on goals by Andrew Carvajal, Jeff Pollard and Derek Johnston. But Crow's came back with two goals to make the final score 3-2. The lie breaking format did not resolve a winner so it was deemed that co-champions co-champions would be crowned for this year. This year's Halenda's team was fortunate to have nine quality forwards: Brandon McDaniel, Jeff Pollard, Chris Kerr, Angelo Lyall, Alex Andringa, Alex Smith, Derek Johnston, Jamie Richardson and Andrew Carvajal. The defence of Jetty and Jeremy Thompson, Ben Krooncnbcrg and leader in penalties Sally Bellerose, played fabulous in front of the solid goaltending duo of David Sharpe and Gordon Tapp. Halenda's finished the season with an impressive impressive 34 wins, 4 losses and 2 ties, .losing in overtime in the 'A' final in Whitby and winning the consolation trophy trophy in the atom tournament in Peterborough. The coaching staff of Don McDaniel, Mike Smith and .Doug Richardson would like to thank all the players and parents for making this one of the most enjoyable hockey seasons ever. For many women this is a subject they are not the least bit interested in and prefer it that way. However for those women who are looking for a financial consultant the key appears to be developing a 'relationship' which is built on trust. Many women feel because they do not understand anything about investing they shouldn't gel involved. In my opinion, this is the wrong altitude to have - the learning process has to start somewhere. We all must ask questions in order to become more educated and have a belter understanding of tin issue. In discussing investment issues with women they want to know that you understand their particular situation and are in fact listening to what they are saying. Women typically over many generations have not dealt with 'financial' situations - the finances were, and in many cases continue to be delegated to a man. In speaking to many women, that is just the way it has been, however most women will say to me they wish they knew more about their household bills, investments, RRSPs, pensions, mortgages, etc. All is not lost though if you have never learned about investments there is always time to educate yourself and become more familiar with the terms and how they relate to your individual circumstances. There are several statistics available that indicate that women, as well as men, should have a solid knowledge about all aspects of llieir financial lives. The life expectancy of females is greater than the life expectancy for males (approximately 7 years longer). Many men will die married, while women will usually die widowed. Therefore many women will be looking after llieir financial situation at some point in llieir lives, whether they want to or not. Women, most often, earn less than men over the course of llieir lives. Women usually have smaller investment or RRSP portfolios and most women do not belong to pension plans. These statistics would indicate that women should begin to learn more about investing in general and more specifically, develop their own relationship with money and a financial consultant.
