Don't Miss Dofasco Choir May 25th Newcastle Lions Tour Goodyear The regular meeting of the Newcastle Lions Club was held on May 13th, in the training room of the Bowmanvillc Goodyear Plant. A lovely cold dinner consisting consisting of salads and deli meats was served compliments compliments of Lion Charlie Trim and The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. After dinner Lion Terry Graham took the opportunity to thank the Lions lor their support this past year as he performed the duties of Zone Chairman. In the coming year, as Regional Chairman Lion Terry commented, that he will need the same quality of support and much more of it and after the first of the year as he intends to run for Vice District Governor. Guest Speaker Lion Charlie gave a very interesting interesting talk on the history of the Goodyear plant from its start in the late 1890s to date. The Lions were then given a tour of the plant by Charlie and Ian McPhcc who is in charge of the training room. Lion Charlie was thanked by Brcnton Rickard. Thank you letters were read, from PDG Brenton Rickard for the surprise party, celebrating his 50 years in Lionism and from David McIntyre Park Chairman Doug Harris for a donation to the park. A third letter was read from the Visual Arts Centre of Clarington listing their accomplishments of the past year and their continuing need of the Lions support. Dr. Roy Rowscll, returned a donation that had been given by the club to help a young Guyanian boy and his parent while receiving treatment treatment in Canada under the Derby Fund. Dr. Rowscll commented that the donation may be required at a later date as another child with a very significant heart defect may come to Canada through the Derby Fund. If this can be accomplished, our financial help would be greatly appreciated. appreciated.
