Students Enjoy Bus Trip to Quebec City BHS News by Tracy Phillips On April 22, 1998 thirty-five students from Bowmanville High Seliool and Courticc Secondary School embarked on an unforgettable journey to Quebec City. For many, the following four days would be their first real experience in the French culture. culture. The bus departed BHS at eight a.m. Ben, the tour guide from Keating Educational Tours, supplied great entertainment throughout the long bus ride, as well as the movie Clueless. At five o'clock we finally arrived at the Ramada Hotel. Students now had some time to explore their rooms before heading out to dinner at La Cvcmalicrc. Later, there was a walking tour of the Upper City and a multi-media presentation on the history of Quebec. Day two proved to be very exciting. Breakfast was held bright and early at Les Frères de la Cote. Afterwards the group met up with their Francophone exchange partners. Everyone enjoyed the games and gelling to know each other. Following a quick lunch break the activities resumed. A scavenger hunt was organized and teams split up to find clues within the walled city. Before a tour of the Lower City, the students said au revoir forever. Those from BUS and CSS then went on to a memorable dinner theatre and presentation. The day concluded with swimming back at the hotel. A seven a.m. wake up call prepared the tourists lor another busy day. While walking on the Plains of Abraham the students had a chance to reenact the famous war in 1759 between the French and the British. Next, they proceeded to the mall for shopping and free time, In the afternoon everyone boarded the bus for a lour along Canada's oldest road, le Chemin Royale and a stop at the Montmorency waterfalls. The breathtaking scenery was captured captured in photographs taken from the bridge over the falls, On the last evening, after an entertaining dinner, the group danced the night away at Bristo Plus, a disco bar. On April 25 the students reluctantly hoarded the bus for home. Exhausted from their excursions, most slept while others others watched Mission Impossible and Days ofTlumdcr, When they pulled into BUS everyone got off with many special memories, From the scenery to the laughter, Quebec '98 was a total success, Town Hall Gallery Features Cranberry Marsh Photo art by Mary Ellen McQuay (above) remains on view at the town hall gallery on Temperance Street until the end of May.
