Education Tax Cut for Businesses From page 1 going to spend more money," he said. That, in turn, means the revenue from sales taxes will continue continue to rise, O'Toole said. In a media release from the Ministry of Finance, it is noted that, in Durham Region, the industrial/commercial industrial/commercial education tax will be cut by 21.8 per cent. That will mean that in 1998, the cuts will amount to $987,210. Since this is an eight-year process, by 2005, $7.897 million will have been cut from education education for businesses in Durham. Information from the Ministry notes the cuts will "help Ontario businesses stay competitive and create jobs. This reduction would apply to businesses in single single and upper-tier municipalities municipalities where business education education tax rates are above the provincial average, estimated estimated at 3.3 per cent. Along with these cuts, the province will be increasing grants to school boards to offset the impact of reducing education taxes. O'Toole noted the province is actually picking up more of the educational tab. than before with these changes were announced. "The province is moving to paying for 70 per cent of the cost of basic education, rather than 30 per cent," O'Toole said.
