Starting this year, the museum will record all donations of Canadian Tire dollars and when any individual donor's total reaches $50 or more in a single calendar year, a tax receipt will be issued. The Canadian Tire bucks will help the museum purchase essentials such as light bulbs, paper towels and cleaning products, and thus save money for programs. Budget Talks Delayed Durham Region council deferred discussions on the 1998 budget for two weeks to allow more talk among regional committees. The decision on Wednesday afternoon, May 20, came after councillors voted to keep two monetary items in the budget --a $100,000 gift to a hospital contingency contingency fund, and $350,000 for the Creating Futures fund for the Durham College University Centre. At the suggestion of Durham's Chief Administrative Officer, Gary Cubitl, the councillors decided to defer the matter for two weeks. The next regional council meeting will take place on Wednesday, June 3, at 10 a.m. at the Regional Headquarters on Rossi and Road, Whitby. Transport Minister Visits Ontario's Transportation Minister, Tony Clement, will be the guest speaker at the Durham Region Home Builders' Association annual luncheon. The meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn, 1011 Bloor St. E., Oshawa, on Monay, June 8th, with the lunch and program commencing at noon. The Minister is expected to discuss Durham Region topics such as the future of the Highway 407 extension, the widening of Highway 401 and changes in GO Transit, Upgrades Announced For Local Schools Several contracts to upgrade local schools were approved at the latest meeting of the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board. BHS Hosts Science Olympics Teams from seven high schools spent a day at Bowmanvillc High School last week competing in the 1998 Science Olympics, an annual event that challenges patticipants in construction tasks and problem- solving.
