Noise Barriers Suggested for Mosport Noise levels at the Mosport Track were under discussion during Monday's meeting of a Clarington Council committee. committee. Ted Kilpatrick, of Leskard Rd„ told councillors councillors he would like to sec barriers similar to those yused .along, the Highway 401 corridor be placed so that the noise; volumes , from the oval track and new go-cart track arc low enough to enable local residents residents enjoy their homes. "If this is the right type of barrier, it could work," Kilpatrick says. During discussions by councillors over allowing Mosport an exemption from the noise by-law, it was decided that, an exemption would not be granted. %. Instead, Mosport will have to meet the requirements requirements of the by-law at the oval track. Clarington Council was told the racing season began May 9. And, when the municipality's consultant consultant monitored the sound levels, it was found that lf< (hb limits contained wfth- in the 'noise by-law were exceeded to the north and' west-of the track'." ....... b> r! r, t. ff/m Srmgs k@me fîke Æ&miS} c X - 0(0 Inglis CITATION Washers and Dryers team up fordean laundry, dependable results every load. Drywall, plumbing fixtures, fixtures, and electrical wiring all sustained major damage. According to Durham Regional Police, about 80 individuals showed up at the Jeffery Home site around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, and ordered the six workers inside to leave. "That's not to say they were all responsible for the damage," Sergeant Jim Grimley notes. "It only takes a few individuals to do this." Officers were able to make arrests a short time after the incident because a licence plate number was seen. Charged arc two Oshawa residents and one Pickering man. A court date has been set for June 26. Approximately 2,000 drywallcrs belonging to the United Brotherhood of Carpenters-Dry wall Acoustic Local 675 have been on strike since May 1 over wages. Police say the Courtice construction site was the second vandalized that same day. Half an hour earlier, a Bayfield home under construction construction in Whitby suffered $6,000 in damages after a large number of individuals arrived on the scene and again ordered workers out. No one was injured in either incident. Clarington Council Briefs Building Permits Decline In April, 103 building permits were issued by the Municipality of Clarington. The permits were for construction valued at $8 million. This brings the 1998 year-to-date total to $24.6 million, which is $4.2 million less than last year's April 30th figure. Included in the statistics were: $7,828,375 in residential construction; $45,000 in commercial construction and $78,000 for other construction. Sign Needed for Cameron Spring An Eighth Cone. Rd. resident would like the municipality to ensure that the spring located on Cone. Rd. 8, east of Bethcsda Rd. has a proper sign. Robert Cameron told councillors at a meeting of Clarington Council Monday, May 27, "three weeks ago, someone wanted a souvenir and now the plaque is gone." He noted that in 1992 a plaque was placed there, but shortly shortly afterwards "it was targeted by vandalism." The spring should be signed and that sign should either be looked after by the local historical society or by the Department of Public Works, Cameron said. He added: "I'm willing to pay for replacing the sign one more time."
