Oshawa Pair Takes Home Morris Funeral Home Title What a beautiful day it was on Sunday, May 24, for the first tournament in 1998. This was in the form of Ladies' Pairs under the sponsorship of Morris Funeral Chapel Ltd., to whom we tender an appreciative vote of thanks for joining our list of sponsors. Their trophy is the new style - a black multi-sided base sporting a distinctive glass eagle which received many complimentary remarks. Teams were present from Oshawa, Peterborough, Whitby and five Bowmanvillc pairs. They played three, twelve-end games which were enjoyed by all participants. As you will read, we had no prize winners, but wait until next tournament - results will be different (so I hear). Winners of Trophy were Arlicne Marshal and Dot Bennett of Oshawa (score 48 plus 1) for three game supremacy; 2nd high three-game winners winners Connie Addington and Jean Saywell (score 42); two game high Ruth McMillan with Gcrri De Mille of Oshawa (score 43 plus 7); two game 2nd high Annie Mayall with June Hawke of Whitby (score 41); one game high Margaret Bissct with June Pearce of Oshawa (score 41). Thanks Bowmanvillc players for your participation participation and better luck next time. The club thanks Ross Hall, plus his helpers, for all their work on the greens and for the fresh paint job on anything that needed a fresh look. Next two tournaments arc Friday, June 19 (mixed pairs) and June 20 (men's pairs). We invite you to come and watch our bowlers in action. New Lawn Bowling Trophy Donated i Morris Funeral Chapel. We were very pleased with the increased interest shown by many schools. Our thanks goes out to them. This was the second time for us to organize this type of show. Its aim is to promote riding competition between schools, to include all levels of riders and has as its emphasis emphasis their ability to ride. Each division includes a dressage test and an equitation over fences class. The percentage scores from both classes are then added together to find the overall winner. This year we had excellent support from our sponsors. This helped us have a more exciting show. Many thanks to all of you. The show was held at Windsong Stables just north of Orono. Scars & Back Pain QUESTION: Telma, my back felt better right after you worked the scar on my tummy. But I don't understand why. Can you explain? We have no trouble understanding how a scar can restrict mobility locally. For example a scar on the knee makes it harder to bend the knee. But how can a scar in one area of the body, like the tummy, have an effect on an area far removed from it, like the back? A scar is the body's natural way of healing after a break in the skin. The layer of tissue between the skin and the muscles is called the myofascia. Like, the skin, the myofascia Is one continuous continuous sheet throughout throughout the body. So the muscles can be thought of as sitting in a body bag of two layers: the skin and the myofascia. The problem problem with a scar is that when it is tight, it binds the skin to the underlying underlying myofascia, a process process called adherence. So, if the "body bag" Is pulled tight In the ront because of a scar, it can restrict mobility in the back. Over time, it can affect the person's entire posture by pulling the head and neck forward and down, and pulling the back tight. In my practice, I have seen many patients improve in their neck and back mobility just from working their scars. Abdominal scars seem to cause the most problem. problem. Even a little scar on the abdomen, like one through the belly button, or an appendix scar, often results in decreased mobility for the back. So, it is my common procedure to ask each patient if they have any scars. I have seen stiff shoulders, shoulders, necks, backs and headaches improve dramatically just from working the affected scars. Once the scar is worked to gain mobility, mobility, it is important to follow follow through with whole body stretches and strengthening to maintain maintain the mobility.
