Capsule Comments with Neale McLean, B.Sc. Phm. For those people with nighttime heartburn, heartburn, here's another helpful suggestion, besides raising the head of the bed six inches. Try sleeping on your left side. That keeps the stomach contents below the point where the esophagus enters the stomach. Also don't cat less than two hours before bedtime. Dollar$ & $ tense with Deborah flRA Kohlsmith Financial Consultant à JL Taking the Mystery Out of Commissions As mutual funds become the way to invest in the 90s and on into the millennium, investors should be aware of the underlying fees and commission schedules that exist. Three main types of commissions are: (1) No-load - no commission fees are paid, however you become your own financial consultant (2) Front-end - a certain percentage of your investment is paid lip front (3) Deferred sales charge (DSC) - investor pays no commission up front; DSC is a declining commission schedule based on the number of years the investor holds his investment (commission declines to 0% after 5 to 7 years) Service fees, also referred to as 'trailer fees', are paid quarterly, based upon the total assets held with a fund company. Each of tire various fund companies rely on a large network of independent financial advisors and these individuals are compensated to provide a high level of service to every client. Management fees, expressed as 'MERs' (Management Expense Ratios) are paid to the fund managers for day to day operations of their funds. Different types of mutual funds may have higher or lower MERs, dependent upon the type of fund and how costly it is to manage (ie. International; Canadian; Emerging market funds). Any figures you see reported in the media have already taken the MER into consideration. The bottom line should not necessarily be a "commission" decision. Your decision should ultimately be based upon the advice, service and integrity of your financial consultant. Hc/she should be assisting you in maintaining your commitment to your goals and most importantly assisting you in achieving your specific financial goals. ©J.P. We lose close to 30% of our body heat through our head so keeping the head warm certainly helps. Several water bottles will be required. One of which must be the soft, squeezable plastic type. This one will work as a wonderful non-lethal defense against all manner of dog attacks. A squirt of water on the snout of a dog will usually wake them out of their stupid stupor and a firm "Go Home" will now be heard. Some people suggested adding things to the water but I did not find it necessary. Plain water works fine. A good scat on your bike is another must. I wore out a gel seat saddle, broke a leather saddle and now have the best saddle money can buy (not an expensive one). Wearing bicycle shorts with chamois scat has saved me from all kinds of discomfort. discomfort. I recommend them. For food I used dry food by mixing a favourite cereal with sunflower seeds, mixed nuts, raisins, dried fruit, etc. I produced a mixture which would keep indefinitely and supplies supplies the needs of the body for a few days until more conventional food can be obtained.
