DOG SHOW BEGINS IN ORONO -- There will be close to 2,000 dogs and their owners at the Orono Fairgrounds June 12, 13 and 14 for the Ontario County Kennel club dog shows and obedience trials. The events begin at 9 a.m. daily and include a rare breed show and a display by the Durham Regional Police Canine Unit. Admission is free. Pathfinders Receive Canada Cords Three members of the Third Bowmanville Pathfinders were presented with their Canada Cords at a ceremony in Memorial Park Clubhouse June 4. Optimist Teen Dance The Optimist Club of Newcastle Village will present its monthly Teen Dance on June 12, 1998, from 7-10 p.m. at the Newcastle Community Hall for youth in grades 5- 12. The minimum grade has been lowered for this dance to celebrate the end of the school year. These dances are always well supervised with a minimum minimum of 12 volunteers at each dance. Admission is $4.00 per person. Chips, pop and chocolate bars can be purchased. purchased. The Club does not have any dances planned for July and August, but the next monthly Optimist. Teen Dances will begin again in September. Any profits made from these dances help pay for the various youth programs programs the club supports in the Newcastle area. Some of these programs include Fall Festival, Youth Appreciation Night for youth of our community, sports night, Family Flicks, free skating, free bowling and free swimming swimming during the March Break and free swimming on July 1 at the Lions Pool in Newcastle. This year the Optimists will also be offering free swimming at the Orono Pool on July 1. We also make many donations to local sports teams and schools to support events. The Optimist Club appreciates the support of all the youth (and parents) who have attended these dances and programs over the years.
