Following a dear lady whose hands were nearly frozen, her advice was to get a pair of gloves. So, Jack delivered the gloves. I was invited inside the store when it rained. To all those who so kindly donated while I was volunteering, I thank you. Attending the Lions MDA Convention in Niagara Falls Thursday through Sunday, June 7th were Jean and Brcnton Rickard, Jean and Terry Graham, Eva and Frank Hoar, Kay and Stan Powell. While in Niagara they enjoyed touring the Butterfly Conservatory. On Friday, June 5th at St. Francis of Assisi Separate School, Play Day was held. Talent Show was also produced. Durham Regional Police were in attendance to present an award to Claudia Cicciarclla, top partroller. Congratulations, Claudia! We understand that closing day for Newcastle Public School is Tuesday, June 23rd. Not many days left! The Optimist Club is sponsoring their last Teen Dance of the season on Friday evening, June 12th at the Newcastle Community Hall. Since this is the last dance Grades 5 to 12 students arc invited. Dances resume again in September. St. George's News The Reverend David Saunders conducted services services at 8 and 11 on Sunday, June 7, at St. George's Anglican Church. Flowers at the Altar were given by Lucy and Marion Martin in memory of Larue Martin. Holy Communion will be celebrated at 8 a.m. and Morning Prayer at 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 14, Congratulations to Carol Jones who received her B.A. from Laurentian University on Friday. Please support the Food Bank. United Church Holy Communion was celebrated at Newcastle United Church on Sunday, June 7th. After the service the Church Family Picnic was held at the home of Erla and Francis Jose. The Sunday School children received their attendance awards. Sher Leetooze entertained with a talk on history. On Thursday June 4 the Trillium Unit members enjoyed lunch at Silks Restaurant, Bowmanville, followed by a social afternoon afternoon at the home of Helen Nesbitt. New Bike for St. Francis of Assisi Bus Patroller Claudia Cicciarclla, a grade 8 student at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic elementary elementary school in Newcastle, went home with a brand new bike after being named top female bus patroller for the Durham Region. Claudia was honored by fellow-students fellow-students and Durham Regional police at a school assembly Friday, June 5th, Handing over the bike, a helmet, and an engraved plaque are Police Inspector Ross Smith (left) and Constable Mike Marks. Winners of the euchre games were: 1st Jean O'Neill with 84 points, 2nd Martha Budd 82, 3rd Velma Clark 78, 4th Percy Clark 77, 5th Ed Hoad 76 and 6th Don Budd with 75 points. Hall, B.Comm., C.A. to the Board. He was recently welcomed welcomed to the Board in a 1 reception hosted by 1 Chancellor Peter Lougheed.
