Obituary Death of Bryce A. Brown, Oshawa Bryce A. Brown of Oshawa died at York County Hospital, Hospital, Newmarket, Ontario, on May 27, 1998. He was in his seventy-first year. In falling health for the last eight months, and in hospital for three weeks, he died from complications arising from a lung embolism. Bryce was born in Oshawa, the son of the late Dr. B.A. Brown and his wife the late Laura Huck. He attended O'Neill Collegiate Collegiate and later Victoria College, College, University of Toronto, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1950. Bryce enjoyed all sports. He was an ardent tennis player and belonged to the Oshawa Tennis Club for many years. From 1960 to 1982, he played a major role In devel oping and managing two pop ular, local, family owned golf courses, Grandview which operated from 1960 to 1973 and Kedron Dells from 1972 to 1983. In 1983, due to chronic health problems, he retired from active manage ment but kept Involved in an advisory capacity. Bryce was a devoted family man. In 1973 he married Barbara Gann. They have a son James, a daughter Catherine and a grandson Eric. He Is also survived by one brother, Robert and his wile Jean. But, youth hasn't stopped the two of them from walking away with some of the top honors in the Ontario show dog circuit. circuit. Meaghan, a grade five student at St. Stephen's Elementary School in Bowmanville, has been showing dogs since she was six. And the skill certainly certainly runs in the family. Her mom and dad, Paul and Mary Ironmonger, breed collies in Pontypool and are part of the professional professional dog breeders fraternity. fraternity. Most summers and weekends, you'll find them on the show circuit CHAMPIONS -- Meaghan Ironmonger and her whippet whippet pup named "Sizzle." Holding one of her major awards is her brother, Tristan. Meaghan will be among the many exhibitors at the Ontario County Kennel Club's dog show at the Orono Fairgrounds this weekend. with their children, Meaghan, Tristan and Luke. Paul explains, "it teaches teaches the kids a lot of responsibility," responsibility," adding that they pick up skills in areas such as handling, care and grooming of their dogs. "It's a family get-together and a lifestyle," he adds. Meaghan says she usually usually spends weekdays on her schoolwork, but on weekends she works with her dog. And, although she takes some time off school to attend the dog shows, she still maintains good marks in her French immersion studies. However, two of the major trophies included an award for best puppy in the show at Nepean and a junior handler award in Chatham two months ago. She will be showing her pup in the Skydome this December in the Puppy of the Year competition. Already, some breeders are seeking out Meaghan to show their animals. Of course, the Ironmongers will be present present at the big Ontario County Kennel Club com petition at the Orono Fairgrounds this weekend. The show runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with junior handlers competing in the obedience division Saturday and in the confirmation confirmation competition Sunday. An estimated 1,700 dogs will be present. The Ontario County Kennel Club presents three Championship Dog Shows and Obedience Trials in Orono June 12-14. The activities lake place under the Big Top at the Orono Fairgrounds. Competition begins every day at 9:00 a.m. This event features specialty specialty shows for Doberman Pinschers, Whippets, Bull Terriers, Rottweilers and Labrador Retrcivers. An added bonus this weekend is a rare breed show and demonstration by the Durham Regional Police Canine Unit. There's something for the whole family; including including pet boutiques and local art exhibit. You can meet the breeders and find out about your favourite breed from an expert. Admission is free.
