The students played 'A Little Blues,' 'Two Thumbs Up,' and 'Ballad for Jeri.' Dennis Ullman, not in the photograph, is the band's director. Row Wow 'Rekindles The Fire' On June 27, 1998, the Native Cultural and Community Centre of Durham Region is hosting a traditional Pow Wow at Durham College. This event will bring people people from all over Ontario, as well as other provinces and from the northern United States to enjoy a day of activities activities and fun. This being our first annual annual Pow Wow, we have picked the theme "Rekindling the Fire". This theme has great significance in our community community since the stories and teachings teachings of old were taught around the fire. The theme also signifies the rebirth, recognition and celebration of the Urban Native Community in Durham Region. In keeping with our culture, culture, we would like to invite all people to join with us in this gathering on June 27, 1998, with the Grand Entry at 12:00 noon sharp. The Native Cultural and Community Centre has been in existence since the fall of 1997. Since that time we have grown from the vision of three people to a community centre of over 50 members. The Native Cultural and Community Centre of Durham Region is striving to become a non-profit organization organization and as such depend only on community based funding. Our centre offers craft classes, healing sessions, teachings and other services based on First Nation tradition tradition and culture. Our bimonthly bimonthly meetings, monthly craft circles and special teachings are open to the public. New Appliance Store is Expanding JR Mills Appliance opened on April 1, 1998, located in the centre of downtown Bowmanville at 125 King St. E, The store deals with the Sales Service and Parts of major appliances both new and used. The Bowmanville store is the second of two stores, the original being in Peterborough the last 20 years. Due to the overwhelming overwhelming response from the public on our new Maytag appliances, we have found it necessary to expand into the entire bottom half of the building. Bowmanville or call us at The Haliburton School of Fine Arts is offering more than 200 courses led by professional artists this year as it officially opens its doors for its 31st season on June 29. "We arc particularly excited to have two new, internationally recognized artists with us this summer," summer," says the school's community liaison officer Shelley Schell. "Pearl Sunrise will be joining us from New Mexico to teach Navajo weaving and fibre artist Ildiko Français will be with us from France." Ildiko will be teaching students students techniques for creating creating three-dimcnional fabrics fabrics as well as a quilting course in which students learn to manipulate landscape landscape designs to create surrealistic images. Set in the midst of cottage cottage country in the Haliburton Highlands, the school is also offering a number of other new courses including native painting and symbolism, card weaving which was once used for court clothing clothing and camel girths, the old craft of timber framing and wax relief sculpture. Other week-long courses courses include paper making, iron sculpture, watercolours, watercolours, willow furniture, weaving, photography, raku, Japanese brush painting, cartooning, storytelling, storytelling, calligraphy, fabric fabric collage, pottery, printmaking, printmaking, stained glass, stone carving, art history, blacksmithing, decoy carving, needlework, jewellery jewellery and Scottish country dancing. There are programs available for children and teenagers and some of them arc metal jewellery, Picasso Pizzaz (Impressionist painting techniques), computer art and animation, printmaking printmaking and the school's creation creation of a "Secret Garden."
