t The Clarington/Courlice Independent, Bowmanville, Saturday, June 13,1998 Page 19 Safe Kids Day A Huge Success Safe Kids was the theme for the Durham Regional Police Clarington Community Day. The laughter and . smiles made it worth the tremendous effort from Inspector Ross Smith and his hardworking committee of Doug McFcclcrs, Mike Marks, Ted Dionne, Sophie Kalmuk, Robin Milburn along with Susan Forsyth and Carol Hallman of Excel Realty Inc. A myriad of community community partners assisted in prizes, props, learning activities and food. Child Find and Blockbuster Video set up a booth for fingerprinting and filming kids. For their efforts, Child Find received $290.00 in donations. Kylea Grccnlrcc was the lucky winner winner of the bicycle donated by Canadian Tire. There were about 150 prizes donated from the Clarington Business Community. The Celebrity Ball Game ended in a tie, which some of the Town Councillors will argue that the Police Team definitely lost. Officer Mike Marks was presented with a plaque from the schools in Clarington for his dedication to the education ! and safety of kids. Mike is retiring at the end of the school , year after thirty years of policing policing in Durham Region. Entertainment was provid- . cd by the Durham Regional Police "Cruisers" Band and the O.P.P. "Bears Hugs" Band. ' An elephant from the Bowmanville Zoo arrived for a tug of war with about 100 kids. The Many Contributors ! were: AI's Variety & Parly Supplies; Avery Dennison; B.F.I; B.O.C.
