Page 8 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanvillc, June 17,1998 Section Two Mystery Tour for Silver Set by Harvey Yellowlees "A mother's patience is like a tube of toothpaste, it's never quite all gone". "What we need is a toy that picks itself up off the floor!" After that lovely rain you can sec the crops growing, even the grass is coming back again. On Tuesday morning about 52 happy people met at Solina Hall and boarded a brand new Kerr bus for the Solina Silver Set Mystery Tour arranged by George and Helen Gilroy. Jeff Kerr was the driver and Mary June Smith the hostess. It was a beautiful day for a trip to wherever the bus took us. The first- stop was The Big Apple for coffee and then just down the road to Hosclton Studio where they showed how they make their aluminium aluminium sculptures that arc sold around the world. We followed the "Apple route" along Highway 2 to the Bay of Quinte and Ameliasburgh. Here was a lunch break among the historical buildings there at the museum. We toured the interesting displays in some 21 areas. Here a guide boarded the bus for a tour of Prince Edward County - Bloomfield, Wellington, Picton and stopping at a glass studio and cheese outlet at West Lake. Yummy ice cream and cheese! Again on the sight seeing seeing drive we saw the Lake on the Mountain on one side and Bay of Quinte below on the other. We left the guide at Ameliasburgh again and back again to Highway 2. Next and last stop was at Little Lake Pavilion near Brighton for a smorgasbord meal. Wes and Doris Hills were celebrating celebrating their anniversary that day. The staff brought them a cake and all joined in wishing them a "Happy Anniversary!" Next stop - Solina. Our thanks to George and Helen Gilroy, Mary June Smith and Jeff Kerr for an educational, interesting day. Thanks also to all who helped me around. The ladies of the com- ! munity have again been busy. Last week the U.C.W. served dinner and provided a program for the Esther. Unit of Trinity Church, Bowmanvillc (a mystery trip for them). Wednesday morning U.C.W. served a muffin break for a busload of hungry hungry people. Wednesday night was the regular meeting of the W.I., and on Thursday served lunch following the Robbins funeral. Ebenezer U.C.W. On Tuesday June 9, 1998 at 12:30 p.m. twelve ladies and baby Rachel Katlyn - Buzza-Duvall met at the home of Joan Down. We ; arranged our chairs under one of the large shade trees 1 and prepared to enjoy our bag lunch. Margaret Down said grace and our hostess served tea and coffee. Joan distributed our copies of the Special Edition of the Mandate, and then gave the Call to Worship which was a poem about making the most of each day. The meditation was from the - Country Guide and under the heading 'Reflections' by Rod Andrews. It was about the importance of the organist in the life of our church and how the congregation is affected by the power of music. Some humorous descriptions were given regarding the difficulties of choosing the music. This reading was very timely as our Ebenezer organist, Eileen Down, is retiring after many years of service playing playing and directing the choir. The song of the birds was a fitting background. The Bible selection was Colossians 3:12-17. Joan presided for the business part of our meeting and gathered the offering and the coins for 'The Fellowship of the Least Coin'. The ladies were glad of the opportunity that Joan had provided to enjoy being outside on a perfect day in June. Following a leisurely visiting time and juice and cookies, we all expressed our thanks to Joan. Ebcncnzcr Meal and Potato Pie Supper is Wednesday, June 24 at 6:00 p.m. The tickets are available from Joan Pickell at 436- 2667. We hope Ada Richards will be back soon. She is at present a little under the weather. See you soon Ada! Lome Wright had the park grounds in gûod condition condition for Solina Day on Saturday, June 13. Many hands prepared the booths, horse shoe pitches and everything else that had to be done. The parade took place at noon with prizes for the best Knights and Maidens. Tickets for the games were looked after by Herb Tink and his helpers. Members of the W.I. looked after the Park memberships. The Dunk Tank and the Jumping Castle were a big attraction, as was Pinky the Clown with her clever balloon creations. There was keen competition competition and a large group of competitors in the Horcshoe Tournament. Winners were 1st Ron White and Clarence Bray, 2nd Cliff and Todd Doiran, 3rd Dennis Bennett and Gord Peters. There were also some women competing competing - Watch out Dennis, daughter Trudy may give you a run next year. Races and Bingo were enjoyed with prizes for all. Donated prizes were won by park members. Even though rain threatened, it did not stop the events. Things went on with a fairly good crowd. A dance at the hall completed the day. I am sure the Park Board would like to thank those who prepared food all day conducted games or helped in any way. Several from the community community attended the Decoration Day for Hampton Cemetery on Sunday. Some also attended attended the induction into the Agricultural Hall of Fame at Milton when Howard Malcolm of Yclvcrlon received this honour, as did Peggy Knapp whose name is well known by Women's Institute members members for her involvement in Canada and with ACWW - the world organization. organization.
