The Canadian Statesman. Bowmanville. June 17, 1998 Page 3 Clarington Council Briefs Lishman Proposal Another 48 letters were added to the growing file on the Paula Lishman International proposal. The letter notes that the proposal is to include not only the fur manufacturing Facility, but also an ultra-light aircraft hangar. All correspondence on the issue is being referred to the Director of Planning and Development for review in conjunction with the application. Franklin Wu says there have been over 700 letters referred to the fdc. He told The Statesman that on July 6th, a long-awaited report will be brought before councillors. councillors. "This is the final stage with a public meeting," he said. But before then, 760 notices of the meeting will be sent out, costing the municipality over $300. In the notices will be an invitation to pick up copies of the report as of June 26. He's not sure that everyone who has submitted a letter letter will be getting in line for a report since, "there are a fair number of letters from outside of Clarington." Once the public meeting is held, councillors could decide on the fate of the proposal which could see the Lishman knit fur design studio, showroom, training area, and employee space come to Clarington on land which has been considered as prime agricultural space. However, at this time, the land where the Lishman's wish to put their facility is a former gravel pit near a former landfill site. Journey Over Clarington resident John Vcldhuis was welcomed in the council chamber on Monday night and asked to relate a story or two about his 1,600 kilometre trip across Canada and the United States. "I made 500 friends -- these arc people with whom I will continue to communicate with. Both Americans and Canadians (he met) were friendly," he said. He recounted a story that took place in the south of Georgia where he was invited to stay at a man's mother's mother's home in a trailer park. When he got there, he discovered discovered that the woman was a chain smoker, and the man's father wds well on his way to drinking a bottle of vodka, and had another one for a reserve force. Vcldhuis noted that as he considered the situation, it began to rain and continued to do so for four days and four nights. Needless to say, he was happy when the storm finally finally cleared and he was on his way again. Vcldhuis added during his journey only three people refused him when he asked if he could put his tent on their lawn. He will be joining KX'96 on-air personality Adriane Vogel as they use cell.phones to drum up three jobs each to make bail.
