Solina News Good Turn-Out for Cards You can't get much done by starting tomorrow!! Practice makes perfect, so be careful what you practice. Our rural bowling has some changes again. I understand understand Jim got a little upset last week, and decided to move his team into first place and they did. So, here are the results: Hi-C's 93, Solina 93, Hampton 90, Optical 66, Ncwtonshaw 54. I wonder what their trouble is? Then my Courticc team with 33, I know they are saving up for the playoffs, I hope!! We had 8 tables for cards at Hampton Wednesday night and here arc the winners: Agnes Schofield, Don Dair, Daisy Bell, Pauline Raymond. The person who worked the hardest was Agnes De Mille. Special # Jean Porrill. Draws Pauline Raymond, Richard Potter, Wilma Kantor, Daisy Bell. I enjoyed myself again. It's nice to have Don and Joyce Taylor home again after visiting their daughter and son-in-law Valeric and Hal in Texas. Glad to report that Jim Kaplyn is home from the hos- by Harvey Yellowlees pital and wc.wish him well. Friday night brought out some 14 + 2 tables for cards at the Solina Hall. It was a good time, with winners as follows: high Merrill VanCamp, John Broome, Marg McGuirk, Barb Cochrane. Most honest player Rose Svctcc. Most lone hands John Broome. Draws: Jean Botlnvcll, Pat Best, Helen Trcwin, Merrill VanCamp, Mac McKinley, Marj Crydcrman, Doris Hills, Betty Chumlcy, Marion Broome, Lloyd Broome, Marg McGuirk, Lois Yellowlees and Elaine Baker. Vi Ashton looked after lunch. It was a good time. Come again this week. I hope Merrill got home alright with his money, he had Jean as his body guard. I made a mistake last week, at the Found party it was Paul Vaneyk that won the wings, not John. Sorry, John!! Our ladies W.I looked after the lunch and supper for the Barries' fiftieth wedding anniversary on Saturday afternoon at the hall. A lovely morning for our church service, Glenn, Paul and Mark Millson were our greeters arid Doreen Westlake our lay reader. The choir number was "Cast Thy Burdens on the Lord", with Sandy at the piano. We had our birthday box for April and 6 people had birthdays this month. Alan Garbe looked after the birthday box. Betty Grant gave the moments for missions. Reverend Munro had a children's story and for the adults, his message was "Forgiven Blessed and Sent Forth". Jennifer Morawetz and Sandy Brittain played a piano duct at the end of the service. Several nice hymns were sung and the service closed with "Go Now and Pass It On". Come out some Sunday and enjoy the sunshine sunshine coming through our beautiful windows. We have a few tickets left for our salad supper on April 27, phone 263-2671. April 28th is a joint session meeting at Hampton. On Sunday evening, Fred and Bernice Watson, Doris Fieri, Eileen Knox, Lois and Harvey Yellowlees were at an oyster supper at Greenwood. Solina Women's Institute Hosts Casserole Luncheon The Solina Women's Institute Annual Spring Casserole Luncheon was held at Solina Hall on Wednesday, March 26 at 12:30. About 150 ladies from surrounding areas came to the dining dining hall to enjoy the hot casseroles, salads and yummy desserts. Doris Hills was in charge of the kitchen. She and her assistant did their usual wonderful job, President Jean Taylor welcomed everyone and Lois Yellowlees looked after the tickets and seating. The draws for the lovely plants on each table were made by Donna Barkcy. The winners were Velma Bcavis, Muriel Limn, Gloria Brooks, Anita Jensen, Dorothy Ccrndell, Sandra Milne, Doris Wilbur, Linda Jane Jaworski, Lois Wilbur, Sheila Kerr, Sue Scgers, Jean Slemon, Dorothy Beech, Ruby Sweet and Mary Marlin. Everyone then moved to the upper hall, where Jennifer Bowman introduced Margaret Coomhes and Gloria Brooks, from "There's No Place Like Home" Interior Design Studios, of Bowmanville. They presented us with many new and interesting interesting decor ideas for our homes. Doreen Westlake thanked them for the wealth of decorating possibilities they had showed us. President Jean thanked all the ladies for attending and making making this luncheon such a success. Degree courses arc available available at all levels including anthropology, environmental studies, native studies and women's studies. Courses arc offered in six, eight and 12-week sessions and are scheduled during the day and in the evenings. The eight and 12-week sessions begin April 28; register register by April 15. The six- week sessions begin July 2 and applications must be in by June 15.
