Many area residents residents enjoyed the meal and socializing with old friends. School finished on June 23rd so do watch for children children playing on the streets. Congratulations and best wishes to Albert Pearce whose eight-fifth birthday comes around on July 1st. An Open House is being held in Albert's honour honour on Sunday, June 28 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Parkview. All the best, Albert! Seniors On Thursday, June 18, a total of 66 Newcastle seniors enjoyed lunch at the Dutch Oven and went back to the Lions Den for an afternoon of cards. Draws were won by Joyce Stacey, Marg Wade, Don Thompson, Elizabeth Skclding, Bessie Dean (2), Kay Ormislon, Alice Hopson and Lena Clysdale. Lucky at cards were: 1st Albert Pearce, 2nd Elizabeth Skclding, 3rd Don Hamm, 4th Velma Jakeman, 5th Jean Holmes and 6lh Marilyn Martin. The senior's barbecue will be held at 12:30 on August 19th at the home of Brenton and Jean Rickard. Orono Decoration Day is held on Sunday, June 28th, The same day the Powell family picnic will be held at Orono Park. Hope to begin dinner at one o'clock. Looking forward to Newtonvillc's July 1 st beef barbecue. On Sunday, July 5th at noon, members of the Newcastle News Newcastle Village and District Historical Society arc invited to the President's Pot Luck Lunch. Bring food. Well, not for everyone. Many Newcastle and Newtonville Guiders and girls will be attending the Blue Heron Division Summer Camp for one week in the Haliburton Highlands. All our Sparks, Brownies, Guides, Pathfinders and Rangers enjoyed camps, banquets and awards after a fun- filled and busy year. Many thanks to all our volunteer leaders who so generously donate many hours to provide provide our 206 girl members with a wonderful and active programme. These ladies spend time away from their families to camp, attend District meetings and planning sessions sessions plus trainings to keep themselves current with the changes Guiding makes to provide today's girls with activities which interest them. Also, thanks to our parent helpers - you are also an important part of the Guiding family. Congratulations to Tiffany W. who completed all the requirements and was awarded the Canada Cord. Tiffany and other young women in Central Area will be recognized at a special Canada Cord for- m in mal ceremony November, held Oshawa. Girl Guides also thanks Newcastle United Church, St. George's Anglican Church, Newcastle and Newtonville Public Schools for allowing us the use of their facilities so we have places to meet. We also appreciate past help from Newtonville United Church and Crossroads Christian Assembly. St, George's News On Pentecost 3 at St. George's Anglican Church, Holy Communion was celebrated at both 8 and 11 services, with the sermon delivered by the Reverend David Saunders. The flowers at the altar were given by the A.C.W. in honour of fathers everywhere. everywhere. All who attended the church picnic were thanked. Hilda Call won Results From Newtonville Card Party On Friday evening, June 19th fifty-five persons attended the card party at Newtonville Hall. Euchre winners were 1st Norma Moffat with 84 points, 2nd Velma Jâkeman 82, three had 81 points, Klaus Zulauf, Martha Clark and June Wilson and Ingrid Zulauf and Aleck Moffat. Lucky draws were won by Norma Moffat, Martha Budd, Marie Couroux, Joyce Stacey, Doreen Green, Harvey Snow and Ed Hoad. The next card party in Newtonville will be held on Friday evening, July 3rd. the jelly bean contest, Flo Tuson the spice contest and Joe Laing second place. On June 28 there will be no service at 8 a.m. Morning Prayer and Nursery School at 11 a.m. United Clnirch On Father's Day June 21, 1998 the Sacrament of Baptism was celebrated at Newcastle United Church. Reverend David Chisling baptized Hannah Jean Bracken Hoscin, infant daughter of Wendy Bracken and Ron Hoscin. Chosen godparents for Hannah arc Kathryn Bracken and James Leonard. Nancy Chisling read the psalm 42-43. Twenty-one new hymn books were dedicated. The beautiful prayer Teach Me Thy Way 0 Lord was sung by Nancy Chisling.
