Interest Escalates In Environmental Farm Plan Participation in the Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) has reached an all-time high. Over the last 12 months, more than 2900 farmers in Ontario have volunteered to participate in local EFP workshops. workshops. "This is great news, especially when you consider that a target of 2000 participants participants per year was set by our Ontario Farm Environmental Coalition (OFEC) for the Agricultural Adaptation Council (AAC) funding agreement," says Ontario Federation of Agriculture President, Ed Segsworth. "The EFP program has earned a good solid reputation," says Bob Bedgood, President of the Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario. "It's an opportunity for farmers to gain practical, up-to-date information on profitable and sustainable agriculture, through environmental best management practices." Interest is growing, too, in the $1500 EFP incentive grant. Claims made by eligible eligible farmers between April 1, 1997, and March 31, 1998 total more than $1.8 million - once again exceeding individual individual claim totals from the four previous years.
