Church service at Eldad had a good attendance from Eldad, Hampton and Zion. Cindy and Kim Ashton were greeters. Jacqueline Dubé was the lay reader. Don Taylor and Cindy Ashton favoured with a lovely duet "Awake My Soul", accompanied by Solina News Joyce Taylor. Reverend Munro's message was "Who Is My Neighbour?" Cold drinks and cookies were served for a social time following the service. It is an hour well spent, try it some Sunday. Service on July 19 and 26th will be 10 a.m. at Hampton. Several from Solina called at Ron and Phyllis Broome's home at Orono Sunday afternoon to wish Marion Broome a happy birthday. The Yellowlees family annual picnic was enjoyed at the home of Ron and Gladys White of Hampton. Many of our local 4-H members had lots of practice practice judging over the past week. On Wednesday evening under the excellent leadership of Glenn and Karen Barkey, members judged dairy, beef, hay, potatoes, horses and pork chops. Top Novice Judge was David Found, Top Junior Judge was Katharine Found, Top Intermediate Elizabeth Millson, Top Senior - Ben Millson, Top "Masters" Judge - Charlene Bowman. On Friday, July 10 many Durham East members and leaders travelled to Peterborough to judge a Junior Day there. Members attending were: Ben, Elizabeth and Morgan Millson, Dianne and Aaron Bowman, Brad, Stephen and Katharine Found, Kathryn Barkey, Tim Ashton, Colleen and Jennifer Arbucklc, Kim Metcalf, Summer Holmes, Lee and Melanie Allin, Andrew Meszaros, Somcr Verhoven, Alex DcJong, Robert Larmer ' and Christine Yellowlees. All members did Durham East "proud" and enjoyed the wrap-up banquet banquet at Rock Haven, followed followed by a dance and "fun at Peterborough Ex."
