After only one week, Majid noted that there was a significant difference in how many of the players improved their game. "One parent said to me that they had been trying to teach their kid how to play for two years, but in only one week at the camp, they could notice a big difference. "I think a lot of it has to do with seeing others at the camp who are making the same mistakes and having the same difficulties, difficulties, and the kids realize that they are not alone in the errors they make." Based on the progress of the players by the end of the week, those errors they were making were becoming fewer and fewer. Wilmot Creek Athletes Compete In Summer Games by Brad Kelly Staff Writer Though they didn't garner garner the worldwide attention attention and publicity that is customary with an Olympic Games, residents at the Wilmot Creek retirement retirement community aren't complaining. Residents spent the last 10 days competing in a variety of events that culminated culminated with a closing ceremony ceremony and parade on Saturday. And, as is customary customary with any Olympics, an opening ceremony and parade was held to kick- start all of the festivities on Canada Day, July 1. "The idea is to keep everybody active, and have some fun with fellow residents," residents," says one of the organizers, Tony Hull. This year's games also served as a fund-raiser for the hospital through registration registration fees and 50/50 draws. Tabulations arc still being made before organizers organizers reach a final total. Over 230 athletes took part in 22 different events that ranged from swimming, swimming, bingo shuffieboard and tennis, to golf, horseshoes, horseshoes, poker and lawn bowling. Everyone who was registered was on one of eleven teams, and names were created that "reflect our ages" said Hull. Some of the more creative names were the 'Pill Poppers,' 'Artificial Hipsters' and 'Creaking Rockers' to list just a few. The Summer Games were started back in 1989, but after a string that ended in 1992, the idea took a six-year sabbatical until this year. TAKING AIM -- Guy Fowler takes careful aim just before firing a horseshoe into the pit during the Wilmot Creek Summer Games that were held from July 1-10. A total of 230 athletes participated in 22 various events. kmmmnI Illflfgg Most cars WE'LL DO: * Install up to 5 litres of ♦ Install a new Motomaster * Lubricate the chassis Quaker State, Valvoltne, Castrol and Pannzoil oils are also available at an extra charge.
