THURSDAY^ JULY 16 ART EXHIBITION OPENS -- The Visual Arts Centre's new show opens Thursday, July 16. Hours are from two p.m., to four p.m. and the artist will be present to meet the public at the reception. This exhibition is entitled Unnatural Landscape and is an exploration of the 1990 Hagersville tire fire which burned for 17 days and consumed 16 acres. The exhibition continues until August 14th. Admission to the gallery is free. Hours are noon to four p.m. Tuesday to Saturday and Thursday from noon to eight p.m. Hours are from one p.m. to four p.m Sundays during the exhibition. The Centre is located at Bowmanville's Soper Creek Park. SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK -- The Driftwood Theatre Group will present its first outdoor summer show at the Soper Creek Park in Bowmanville on Thursday, July 16th. The play commences at eight p.m. The performers will present Macbeth. OUTDOOR CONCERT -- Brookfield, a folk group of seven membérs that got its start by performing performing in coffee houses will be playing at the Rotary Park in Bowmanville Thursday, July 16. Their showcase of songs ranges from acapella numbers such as "Lizzy Speaks to Joy, " to the contained passion of "Each and Every Day," to the East Coast melody of "Dameon's Harbour." Doors open at 9:00 p.m. Live entertainment will be provided by "Bad Influence," a new local band with a mixture of music for all. All proceeds will be donated to Simcoe Hall Settlement House. Non-perishable food items will be collected to help replenish their depleted food bank. PARK PROGRAM EXPLORES WETLANDS -- The following programs will be offered at Darlington Provincial Park on Parks Day, Saturday, July 18, 1998. The theme is "Walk on the Wet Side!" (wetlands). GUIDED WALK - Second Marsh Stroll, 2:00 p.m. Meet at Picnic area #1. "Take-A-Hikc" on Parks day and join Allison for an extended trek to Second Marsh, the largest remaining coastal wetland in the Greater Toronto area. Bring water and sun protection. There's also a children's program at the log cabin during the day. The evening program is entitled "Second Marsh: A Special Place". (905) 623-2670 Horticulture Society Holds Garden Tour Eight of Bowmanvillc's finest gardens will be showcased this Saturday, July 18th, during the Horticultural Society's annual garden tour. The tour takes place from 10 a.m. to four p.m., rain or shine, and serves as the major fund-raiser for the Society. Tickets can be obtained from the Ecology Garden at the Bowmanville High School on the day of the event. Tickets are also available in advance from Hutton.
